Media jackals predictably are braying that President Trump failed at the Hanoi summit. Nothing could be further from the truth. President Trump wisely sent North Koreas dictator Kim Jong-un back to Pyongyang from Hanoi, where he can tell the generals and security police commanders, on whose support he depends, that they are not going to get sanctions relief without giving up their nuclear arsenal.
There is every sign that this outcome in Hanoi is a predictable stage in the process of obtaining consensus among the North Korean ruling class that they must give up on the strategy of confrontation and isolation, with their survival guaranteed solely by nukes, and instead open up to the outside world and the prosperity market economies can generate.
But, of course the Trump-hating media have leaped to the conclusion that the summit was a huge failure because President Trump sent Chairman Kim back home to Pyongyang with the message that ending the sanctions will require complete, verifiable denuclearization.
AP rushed to judge the talks a failure, headlining, Trump, Kim summit collapses amid failure to reach deal, in a dispatch that took 6 reporters as authors or contributors to publish. It called the premature end to the talks a dispiriting end to high-stakes meetings meant to disarm a global threat.
This is pure propaganda.
President Trump abundantly signaled that he is not in a hurry for a deal any deal at the expense of getting a suboptimal result. He set the expectation that, while optimistic about eventually getting to his goal of denuclearization, it might be a longer process than the short attention span media would prefer.

NOTE:
It is clear from Kim’s language that the talks didnt collapse into bitterness and a refusal to proceed further. Both leaders remained cordial and continue to affirm their mutual goal of getting to a deal. So far as I have been able to discover, this was the first time a North Korean leader has ever faced a press conference with Western media asking questions. That in itself is a very significant factor in opening up North Korea to the process of getting toward acting as a normal country does. It is a long process, to be sure, but this is a step in the right direction.
Many people wrongly assume that because North Korea is an absolute dictatorship Kim can do anything that he wishes, and his putative subordinates will go along with it. This is not my understanding of the real power structure in that benighted country. The young dictator depends on the loyalty of the commanders of troops and police who have the weapons that could overthrow him and install someone more to their liking. This threat is why he had is half-brother assassinated at the Kuala Lumpur Airport, since having the blood of the Kim dynasty seems to be an essential attribute of a leader there. But if the military and security force commanders see an existential threat to their survival in power, they could still overthrow Kim and install another leader, finding grounds to claim legitimacy.
Great post.
And who care what the msm writes or says?
It DIDNT help hillary and there were YEARS of praising her in the msm and more than a FULL YEAR of bashing Trump.
how’d that work out for them.
It’s kind of fun to watch them try and fail over and over and over and over.
Not only does this strengthen Trumps hand in China trade negotiations, but it shuts up the MSM snowflakes with their predictions of Trump giving away the store just to get a deal w NK.
We know that, but the sheeple fed fake news do not. The corrupt media needs to be overthrown.
As for Fat Kim...
Now, Kim must make another long 3-and-a-half-day rail journey back to Pyongyang, where he must deliver the message that Trump wont fall for anything less than what he demands. I have not been able to discover if Kims planned extra two days in Hanoi following the summit will be cut short.
If so, that will be a lost opportunity, for Kim would have heard from his communist brothers in Viet Nam about the many benefits of opening to the West, and of how the Americans can be really helpful in dealing with the Chinese, who regard all of the East Asian neighbors as tributary states, properly subordinate to the Middle Kingdom, as they have been for millennia.
He would also notice that the population in Viet Nam is pretty happy with the economic progress that has improved their standard of living and supports their communist dictatorship because it is materially upgrading their lives.
Let’s look at two past negotiations with nuclear powers made by former Presidents:
1. President Reagan walked out on the Reykjavik Summit with Mikhail Gorbachev in October 1986 after Gorbachev insisted on Reagan stopping the SDI project.
Reagan wrote that he left the meeting knowing how close they had come to achieving his long goal of eliminating the threat of nuclear destruction, and that this was the angriest moment of his career.
Despite failing to achieve either mans ultimate goal, Reykjavik will be recorded as one of the most important summits in history. A year after Reykjavik the U.S. and Soviet Union signed the Intermediate Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF), for the first time eliminating an entire class of nuclear weapons. The Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) was signed a few years later during President H.W Bushs term.
2. Look at the way the Obama Administration caved-in to Iranian demands and produced the JCPOA agreement, sending billions of dollars to the chief sponsors of terrorism in the world, and obtaining an agreement that allowed full nuclearization of Iran in ten years.
That agreement that is of course, now all but defunct.
The generals will push to start lobbing missiles again. Trump will respond by sending the fleet over there again, and Voila! he’s back in China’s back yard.
Good. MOve. I learn a lot from this man, unlike the others who were basically chair sitters.
We haven’t had a honest to goodness man as president since Reagan, and even then he was a few years older than he would have been had Jerry Ford not nixed him.
The presidency will never be the same again. It will from here on out be the job for real men, for real doers, and for people from the private sector.
No longer will this be a job of a single person propped up by his consultants and marketing.
Trump is on a mission, he knows this.
Trump WROTE “The Art of the Deal”!!!!
Stay tuned for further development with North Korea over the course of the year!!!!
Kim has an ever-present directive in his mind. STAY ALIVE!!
He must account to his “peers” and China. There is much more to come.
I’m still working on braying jackals.
I think we may soon be reading the obituaries of some Nork generals.
Just sayin’.
It was a good choice to have the summit in Vietnam. Another country close to China, hard core commie leadership, expanding economy.
Now, Kim must make another long 3-and-a-half-day rail journey back to Pyongyang, where he must deliver the message that Trump wont fall for anything less than what he demands.
This is why I really like this President. Any other one would have tried to come home with a signed document, even if it gave away the store (as they ALL have in the past). Not this one! Trump walked away. This man truly understands negotiation. And if you’ve ever been in a big negotiation, you have to write down your “walk away” and then stick to it. Obviously, Mr. Trump has done this. Congratulations!
I just saw Stephanie Rhule at MSNBC state, "Trump just failed in North Korea. Is this a win?"
And there you have the bottom line. Does that remind anyone of someone who stood down the Soviet Union and it fell? I personally think Kim Un is mentally deficient from all the in-breeding in their family dynasty.
Interesting to note that the summit was held in Viet Nam. They still have a totalitarian system, but like China, have realized the stability of a free-enterprise system. If someone would just put a bullet in UN's head, I'd bet most other PTB would embrace international commerce and join the world community. Some people just need to be deaded.
BBC is calling it a disaster for Trump ,LOL I think China should look out ,LOL
Good.
They kept this thing from going over a cliff and I am glad the President listened to them for once. He won't regret having made this decision. A crappy "treaty" or whatever it would have been that the Norks were suggesting, without truly giving up the nukes (which we already know from Congressional testimony from DNI, CIA, DIA is true), would have been the absolute unraveling of Northeast Asia, and I for one would not want to see that happen. It is good we stood our ground. Ball in Kim's court now.
PS MSM is generally negative on whatever outcome would have emerged, their narrative is so corrupt, they have no legitimacy.
Yep, the days of Obama, Hillary and Lurch's bad deals are over.
