The GOP nightmare scenario is not that Moore runs, it is that he wins the race. Moore is unacceptable to the GOPe because he is viewed as uncontrollable.

I think you've hit the nail on the head.

Moore is unacceptable to the GOPe because he is viewed as uncontrollable. That's a valid point, but being "uncontrollable" is a death wish in legislative election.
A legislator who can't be counted on to support key legislation is absolutely useless to a political party. That's just one reason why they bailed on the guy in 2017.
I'll bet this guy wouldn't have even voted to confirm Brett Kavanaugh.

So is the Zika virus, but I wouldn't elect it to Congress.

I have noticed that the GOPe always attacks conservative reform candidates. Miller in Alaska, McDaniel in Mississippi, Angle, O'Donnell, George Allen, and so forth.

Moore is unacceptable to the GOPe because he is viewed as uncontrollable. That, or he's a Republican that lost a statewide race in ruby-red Alabama.
Right now, Doug Jones is considered the most vulnerable Senate incumbent up for reelection in 2020. That changes if Moore is the nominee. I think the GOP has a pretty damn good reason for not wanting him to be their candidate.
