Roy Moore, a conservative lightening rod who cost the Republican party a Senate seat in deep-red Alabama, is signaling fresh interest in mounting another campaign in 2020, sparking alarm on the right that Democratic Sen. Doug Jones could be gifted another unlikely victory.
Moore, 72, a former state judge, made the rounds at last Fridays Alabama Republican Party dinner gala. A few days later, a new political action committee run by Moores son, Caleb Moore, issued an email fundraising appeal.
Republican insiders, including conservative allies of President Trump, fret that Moore derailed by sexual assault allegations in a 2017 special election that should have been an easy layup might divide the party in the primary and advance to a rematch with Jones. On Wednesday, a Moore confidant pointedly declined to rule out that his buddy might run for Senate next year.

Neither woman made any blunders that would have sunk a Democrat. A Democrat doing exactly the same thing would have won anyways.
Look at how many GOP voters stayed home.
He couldn’t bring them out.
Let Jones keep the seat then.
I like Moore, but he is too badly damaged. I don't think Moore will win the primary this time. I think Mo Brooks will probably be the next Senator.
The idiots are the people who let the media “Kavanaugh” him, and are acting on the basis of the lies their enemies have made them believe.
At least one, I saw the announcement the other day.

No fan of Graham here but “How would a Rat do?”.
Over the course of time (to 2020!) lets see how Graham does, then get back to me
I have noticed that the GOPe always attacks conservative reform candidates. Miller in Alaska, McDaniel in Mississippi, Angle, O'Donnell, George Allen, and so forth.
Moore lost for one reason and one reason only. The Democrat controlled media weapon system attacked him with lies, while the Republican members of the Washington DC establishment, stabbed him in the back.
If the media hadn't been able to spread unprovable lies ala Kavanaugh, or if the Republican party officials had just kept their f***ing mouth's shut, Moore would have won that seat.
That and those stupid traitorous bastards like Richard Shelby and Jeff Flake urging everyone to vote for the Democrat.
Both Richard Shelby and Jeff Flake deserve to have their f***ing teeth punched out.
I’m thankful that Perry Hooper was not included as a “player” in your link.
I believe it was 21,000, which also happens to be the exact number of the record breaking "write in" vote.
Richard Shelby got on national television and urged everyone in Alabama to write someone else's name in. The write-in vote was almost exactly the margin of loss for Moore.
In these cases
“......
Miller in Alaska, McDaniel in Mississippi, Angle, O’Donnell, George Allen
......”
They (or direct staff!) mishandled themselves with public gaffes in front of the press. The exception might be O’Donnell - I simply can’t remember who this is!
There are five rules for any GOP’er running for office. (These rules also applies to staff. Staff must be as disciplined as the candidate!)
1. The press is you enemy - local, state, national & international!
2. The press is you enemy - local, state, national & international!
3. Doesn’t apply to Rats,
4. Yes its unfair!
5. see Rules 1 - 4
Corollary 1. If you gaffe in public SHUTUP! Digging a deeper hole doesn’t help.
Corollary 2. If you feel you have to explain. Don’t! Its a deeper hole! If you do, your done!
Agree on all points.
I have no problem accepting this. The problem is this:
Having someone like this casting one vote in the U.S. Senate when the other 99 aren't on the same page is a case of a good man in the wrong position in government.
That seems like an important detail to leave out when explaining how he lost. It's like saying someone died, without telling everyone that they had been murdered.
Kind of a big deal to get the cause of that loss right, and not try to cover it up to make your stupid point.
Moore was Kavanaughed, and I said at the time, if we let them succeed in using this collection of kook bitches lying about Moore, they are going to do it again, and we only had to wait for the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh for my prediction to be proven correct.
Moore was screwed over by our two primary enemies in this fight for the soul of America.
1. The media weapon system controlled by liberal Democrats.
2. The Republican members of the Deep State, Crony Capitalist influence cartel of Washington DC which we currently refer to as "the establishment."
Moore was taken out by their weapons precisely because he represented a threat to Washington DC's power structure and status quo.
That's exactly right. But it's a bad example because it's an issue where the Republican Party as a political party is at odds with a huge contingent of its own voters.

Reid Hoffman, a billionaire who was allegedly involved in a false information campaign [against Roy Moore] in Alabama, played a crucial role in developing software capable of creating deepfake news articles, sources confirmed. Tesla CEO Elon Musk suggests he distanced himself from OpenAI in 2018 after disagreements about the direction researchers were taking the group. One of the big tech billionaires responsible for financing a project creating deepfake news articles is a prominent Hillary Clinton supporter and Democratic donor. ...
That, or he's a Republican that lost a statewide race in ruby-red Alabama.
Right now, Doug Jones is considered the most vulnerable Senate incumbent up for reelection in 2020. That changes if Moore is the nominee. I think the GOP has a pretty damn good reason for not wanting him to be their candidate.
I offer Donald J. Trump as a perfect example of this.
He faced the exact same opposition tactics -- and even rebellion from his own party leadership -- in 2016, and he won a victory on a national stage that nobody expected.
Roy Moore couldn't even do the same thing in one of the most heavily Republican states in the U.S. That's all you need to know about him as a candidate.
I've looked at Alabama election records. Moore got more votes than Richard Shelby, who was a previous Alabama Senator. The winner of the next statewide election in Alabama got only slightly more than that in 2012, and Moore also had much of the Alabama judiciary taking out full page adds in prominent Alabama newspapers urging the public to vote for the Democrat in 2012.
So this attempt to mischaracterize Moore's election win in 2012, is wrong headed. Moore did almost as well as the next down ballot office for a statewide race, and he did actually better than the previous Republican Senator elected in Alabama. (In terms of numbers of votes.)
This is absolutely correct.
