How Forcing Michael Cohen To Divulge Attorney-Client Communications Damages The Rule Of Law
The Federalist ^ | 02/27/19 | Adam Mill

This cooked-up pretext to invade the president’s attorney-client privilege is a stain of shame on the rule of law and tramples on a 500-year-old rule that protects our common law tradition.

The New York Times promised that today Michael Cohen, the president’s former attorney, “will describe in what was called ‘granular detail’ the plan to pay Ms. Daniels, which he will say was initiated by Mr. Trump, the person familiar with the testimony plans said.”

This, the Times rapturously promised, would provide, “evidence of potential criminal conduct since Mr. Trump became president.” As shown below, this cooked-up pretext to invade the president’s attorney-client privilege is a stain of shame on the rule of law and tramples on a 500-year-old rule that protects our common law tradition.

The FBI seized the recording during a raid of Cohen’s office. The New York Times did not say where it obtained the recording.

Subsequent to the release of the recording, the president chose not to assert attorney-client privilege. Those familiar with attorney-client confidentiality understand that the public release deprived him of any meaningful opportunity to make that choice. Nobody can un-hear the recordings.

It’s bad that an attorney maintained secret audio tapes of conversations with his client. Such information has a way of ending up in the wrong hands, and secretly making these tapes impairs the spirit of the attorney-client relationship. But it’s really bad that the American Civil Liberties Union posted an article cheerleading the raid. The government doesn’t need a cheerleader, and certainly not from the ACLU.

1. He knows Cohen is a moron.

2. He knows Cohen has been lying his ass off all over the place.

3. Having a guy convicted of lying to Congress sitting there as a star witness in front of Congress makes Trump look like the victim of a desperate political hatchet-job.

Aside from Mueller doing an illegal investigation based off fake political “dossier”, and Muller does an illegal raid because he was desperate....

But I am just wondering what does all this have to do with Russian’s conspiring with Trump to steal the 2016 elections?

Furthermore, if congress is so concerned about politicians paying people off for sex, then how come they still have the secret congressional payoff for sexual harassment? I can’t help but wonder how many on this panel have actually paid off interns, etc.. to shut them up.

This dog and pony show is a complete joke. What is sad is these pathetic politicians, and the losers in the media some how think things will go back to normal after they remove Trump? They cannot put the tootpaste back in the tube.

question...

Does any one know what the problem is with Elijah Cummings health issues are?? Saw him returning to the committee meeting and he uses a walker to assist him walking, and he had two huge body guards help him to his padded, leather seat...

checked his bio page and no mention of it...just wondering? I thought he was much older than his quoted age of 68.

What do you think is behind it?

Well, I suspect we both hold a scarcity of facts. However, standing out here on the sidewalk, it is my sense that most if not all of the folks with the slightest involvement in Cohen's conviction, or that could have influence in the penalty phase or even thereafter in the incarceration phase - are anti-Trump. Cohen's public statements to both voters and the House, perhaps represents their final shot at Trump in this particular affair.

Of course, Cohen's carefully narrowed and tailored testimony to the House was designed to enthrall a number of people who would love to find yet additional charges that would support initiating impeachment proceedings.

IMO, the House is not necessarily looking for a solid case, they just want to flood the MSM with all manner of assertions through the primaries and perhaps beyond.

You, of course, could be correct, that Cohen was/is a willing, even eager participant. On the other hand, I think Cohen is smarter than that but nonetheless ultimately submitted to pressure.

Hope you have a nice evening.

He knows Cohen is a moron.

Beware. Not all duplicitous weasels are morons, especially those weasels who get through law school.

Cummings closing statement made me sick to my stomach...

This is a prime example of our current HOUSE OF THE US CONGRESS.

IF THE SENATE TAKES OVER IN 2020 AND THEY TAKE OVER THE WH...

WE WILL ALL NEED TO PRAY FOR OUR FAMILIES..

I’M GLAD I AM OLD...

Michael Cohen graduated from one of the worst law schools in the U.S. They are frequently in the legal journals over stories about their possible loss of accreditation.

One hopes with that you are not arguing Cohen is a moron. The fact he was admitted to the NY Bar and soon became a member of Trump's legal team after attending "one of the worst law schools" tends to support my point - that while he appears to be a duplicitous weasel, he is not a moron. {;^]

If you're suggesting that Mueller agreed to a light sentence without knowing what Cohen was going to say to the congressional committees then that would be pretty dumb of him.

No I am saying Cohen doesn't no anything incriminating because he is serving time. If he could incriminate Trump he would walk.
