It's plausible to me that he knew nothing about the meeting...at that point in the campaign the carp was flying fast and heavy. Not...repeat, NOT that there was anything wrong with the meeting.

I understand the difference between that which is meant to be taken as gospel, and that which is 'talk.' It's a skill acquired by adults.
