Falling rock, ice at Yosemite National Park kill woman on closed trail: officials

A California woman was killed on Sunday while on a closed trail in Yosemite National Park, according to officials.

Xuan Wang, a 56-year-old woman who lived in Cupertino, was on the Mist Trail around 12:30 p.m. when she was "struck by falling rock and ice," the National Park Service stated in a news release on Monday.

Wang later died from her injuries.

The park agency said that the Mist Trail where Wang was killed is closed during this time of the year because of "icy and hazardous conditions," and that the area is noted as such.

"The trail closure is clearly marked and there is a gate on the trail reminding visitors of the closure. Wang ignored the signs, went around the gate and the incident happened on the trail leading to Vernal Fall," officials said.

The park service said officials are investigating the incident.

If this is your way of gently guiding yourself into admission of being wrong, then ok. I understand it’s not easy. I will respect honesty. More important for you, honesty will set you free.

Every one of you needs to hang your head in shame.

I'll bet you're a real hit at parties. Nobody cares what you think so you can take your sanctimonious BS elsewhere.

Let’s do away once and for all with this stupid, retarded “Darwin Award” club.

Stupid, because it’s based on the premise of Darwinism.

Retarded, because it manipulates otherwise normal people into accepting tenets of Darwinism.

If being a hit at parties is your life, knock yourself out.

Most idiots in popular culture, those whose greatest achievement is to let themselves be manipulated by the stupidity of progressivism, seek to be the hit of the party. It’s their life goal.

The longer you stay in that kind of life, the more misery you reap.

Look carefully at the arguments in this thread.

What you’ve chosen is to oppose love for your fellow man, woman in this case, in favor of heartless ridicule, and celebration of death.

Celebration of death. Think about it.

Really, maybe this isn’t the right forum for you. We have a lot of fun laughing at abject stupidity here. If that’s not your cup of tea perhaps you can find some place that is.

How about giving up on it.

For one thing, Darwinism is stupid.

For another, having a lot of fun laughing at accidental deaths is anti-American.

Maybe you’re pro-abortion, too.

If so, this isn’t the right forum for you, so get the bloody fn h*** off.

If not, then how can you justify celebrating other examples of innocent people dying?

Yes, I remember that. Some young people made the mistake to swim in the pool and were swept over the falls. It was a shame. But it shows that one should always respect nature.

Be careful.

In your zeal to defend virtuous values the leaven of the Pharisees is rising geometrically.

A bit of an over reaction on your part, IMHO.

And, God bless, have a great day!

“Why did you leave out Rattlesnake Creek?”

Well sure, it’s bad but not as bad as Rattlesnake Forest.

I think it’s possible to feel sympathy for the victim at the same time as being somewhat exasperated that so many people seem to be oblivious to the obvious perils of certain situations. Like if it was very windy would you go down a trail to see what a park brochure describes as “ten-storey high waves that sometimes break over the cliffs?”

Why would you want to do that? Yet people do.

Please tell me where I demeaned this woman in her death?

And by the way, I have read your posts over the years and respect your point of view on many things, but I did not appreciate your mischaracterization of my posts.

I fully understand the phenomenon of ridiculing the aspects of the choices people make that result in their own demise, and have fallen prey to it myself which I try to avoid.

But simply commenting on the fact that the woman bears responsibility for her own death is not deameaning her.

Just to provide more context on this accident: the woman was a real estate agent in Cupertino, which by its nature verifies she speaks and reads English, since that job cannot be done by someone who does not.

Also, here is the sign that was posted apart from the locked gate(s):

Even someone who doesn't speak English at all would not have missed the hiker icon with the red circle and slash indicating a prohibition. This woman likely made the choice to go up that trail because it is scenic and well known, and she wasn't going to miss out on it after traveling out there. Bad for her, but at least nobody got hurt looking for her.

Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God

You may remember this quote.

It has more significance than just Don’t ask God to save you from jumping from a high place.

It also is saying to us not to needlessly place our lives in danger.

Our lives do not belong to us they belong to God.

This woman ignored plainly posted warning that going beyond the barrier was dangerous to life and limb.

While I have pity for her family for their loss I have difficulty in having pity for a person that ignored authority and by her own actions ended her own life.

I have great respect for life but not for those that willingly put their own life in danger needlessly.
