A California woman was killed on Sunday while on a closed trail in Yosemite National Park, according to officials.
Xuan Wang, a 56-year-old woman who lived in Cupertino, was on the Mist Trail around 12:30 p.m. when she was "struck by falling rock and ice," the National Park Service stated in a news release on Monday.
Wang later died from her injuries.
The park agency said that the Mist Trail where Wang was killed is closed during this time of the year because of "icy and hazardous conditions," and that the area is noted as such.
"The trail closure is clearly marked and there is a gate on the trail reminding visitors of the closure. Wang ignored the signs, went around the gate and the incident happened on the trail leading to Vernal Fall," officials said.
The park service said officials are investigating the incident.

Every one of you needs to hang your head in shame.
This was a human life.
And on this day, when moronic ideology and political cowardice have defeated real American values in our senate in the devaluing of human life.
I cant tell the difference between you people and a group of anti-Americans whose goal in logging on to this website is to make Freepers (real Americans) look like theyve done a 180 on American values.
There’s a trail near me called Anklebreak, a steep shortcut. One day when I went hiking in the area, there was a sign announcing “RATTLESNAKE ON ANKLEBREAK TRAIL.”
Maybe the woman should have valued her life more? Are you having a bad day? Overreact much???
Shame on you people, post 41 goes for you too.
If you prefer the values of progressivism, go for it its your right.
But stop pretending.
Sorry, the anti-American argument will always lose.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
I have no sympathy for someone who flips the bird at signs that tellbthem something is unavailable.
This is up there with camping in Iraq.
Go wag your little finger elsewhere.
La Brea Tar Pit
If you cant act like a real American, which means valuing life and having the decency that goes with it, then stop pretending to be one.
She chose poorly.
Its been my impression since I joined this website that anyone whos lost their American values needs to rethink real hard.
And anyone who deliberately accepts anti-American values might not have the mental capacity to escape their plight.
By which I mean, real Americans will have sympathy for this woman.
Anti-Americans wont.
So much for compassionate, christian humanity on this site..........(shaking my head in disbelief)
What have we become?
Please explain further how I should hang my head in shame.
For pointing out that people who break rules and are killed by an act of nature those rules were put in place to prevent should have observed the rules?
You will notice that I did allow that perhaps the woman could not read. But don’t you think that it is the personal responsibility to understand signage?
I have a hard time understanding why you think I should hang my head in shame.
And, as an aside...
I have hiked the Mist Trail several times, and loved every minute.
As told to me by a Ranger, the Mist Trail is the most hazardous of the many, many hiking trails in Yosemite. The biggest reason? Fools (there is no other descriptive) choose to swim in the quiet-looking fore-ponds to the Vernal and Nevada waterfalls.
My most recent hike on the trail, some years back, I noticed lots of divers looking for bodies beneath Vernal Falls.
The woman’s life had value. She served as an object lesson in what happens when you insist on being stupid. Her death might save the life of someone wise enough to learn from it.
Youre starting to choose more poorly than she did, if you accept the anti-American attitude of those who show no sympathy for this woman.
There is nothing in the Alinsky playbook that will allow you to prevail here.
Alinsky could never confront American values straight on. This is the death of Alinskyism and all lying beliefs. Been said before.
Do you value human life?
You need to learn the difference between teaching a lesson for the sake of helping others and making fun of a person who suffered a fatal accident.
The difference is the same as the difference between traditional American values and communism.
Of course I do. I apparently value human life more than the woman valued her own.
Why would you ask if I value human life?
Life is full of tragedy that cannot be avoided. This tragedy was clearly and unequivocally avoidable.
I’m just trolling you because I dislike your preaching style.
