A sure way to split this country into distinct political factions that would lead to disintegration of the union.

The electoral college system is in the Constitution. I don’t think these “laws” will hold up.

Corrupt, but you’re right. Completely legit. The legislature doesn’t have to give the voters any say at all

I don’t think the majority of Americans want mob rule. This isn’t politicians representing their constituents.

Colorado just decided that illegal aliens in motor voter states pick where their electoral votes go.

So, they pretty much want the people of Los Angeles and NYC to decide our elections...

and the rest of us neednt bother to vote???

Yeah...that sounds like their precious “democracy” to me...

“The Constitution leaves it up to the States to decide how to choose their Electors.”

True, but this is telling the Electors how they must vote.

Jack and Jill run a 100-yard dash. Jill leads after 80 yards but Jack finishes strong and wins. Jill complains that she would have won had the race been only 80 yards.

Jack agrees to run the race again. Jill leads after 60 yards but Jack finishes stronger and wins this race too.

Good analogy. Got another one for you... The NE Patriots win the Super Bowl but the LA Rams get more yardage. That isn't fair. Next year, winners will be decided by yardage. Low and behold, everyone is now going for every yard they can get on fourth and long in field goal range rather than going for points. No one will ever punt.

If you change the way games are won, you change the game.

This is state suicide. Two or three states with no voting restrictions will determine every election! That is tyranny! Everyone is disenfrachised at a national level. So if everyone in California wants your money for whatever the lateset boondoggle train or bridge, they got it.

Look at HR-1. It’s the groundwork for one party rule.

Just imagine their reaction the next time a Republican wins the popular vote.... and 181 liberal states have to join the conservative states in the EC vote... >:)

And that is probably how the civil war will be fought. But it is also where we will learn that, though there are a lot more people in urban areas, a large minority of them are conservatives.

Good point, I'm sure you're right.

Exactly.

Say Trump wins the popular vote in 2020, and 181 EC votes from Blue states now vote republican... you will see a nearly solid red map at the EC level, circa 1984... Stupid leftists.

To: bgill; Publius

The electors will vote according to the people of their state. The state has no say on how electors will vote. This state pact is patently unconstitutional on its face.

Publius, I pinged you because I seem to recall that you had some deeper knowledge of the EC. If I am wrong, please disregard. Else, please shed some light on this so-called ‘compact’.

Oh yeah, and the Supremes will stand by and wait for the first lawsuit to use to settle this idiocy.

****************

That’s not a very reassuring prospect. The USSC is a highly political institution which too often sides with the Left on key political issues.

I recently saw part of an interview with a state legislator (can't recall the state) during which he/she was asked if state legislators consider the constitutionality of a particular piece of legislation before they vote in favor. The legislator states emphatically and without hesitation that they don't...they just pass it and let the lawyers and the courts worry about it,

I was stunned by the brazenness of his indifference to the population's Constitutional rights.
