A recent column by Matt Lewis in the Daily Beast takes (almost) seriously the chances of a successful primary challenge to President Trump. Lewis, the author of a book on the dumbing down of the Republican Party during 2016, is no fan of the President. He’s an admitted Never Trumper, who, like his fellow partisans of the Never-Trump stripe, still envisions himself as part of Nock’s “remnant,” holding true to Republican Party platform of 1983.
“Once considered a preposterous idea (‘It’s Trump’s party!’ ‘The takeover is complete!!’), it looks like Donald Trump will face a primary challenge,” Lewis begins his exposition. Just as wishful thinking usually has some element of truth to it, the dreamy Lewis is right about one thing: Trump does have a primary challenge. Former Massachusetts Governor Bill Weld has launched a Republican challenge to the President. Political talk shows may be taking Weld’s bid semi-seriously, but let’s just put it to bed right now: a former blue-state governor who endorsed both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton is campaigning for publicity, not caucus wins.

Never Trumpers equals people too spineless to stick up for conservative principles. The world has no use for them.
Primary elections are base elections, and Trump’s support among the base is about the highest that any sitting president has had. A primary against him would be an exercise in futility.
I remember our own Free Republic 2015-2016 primary war with fondness... ;-)
If you're OK with a Democrat being appointed as a judge to the Federal courts after the last two years of Democrat judges pretending that they're running the country, you're a Democrat.
That makes all the Never Trumpers Democrats.
Sans Trump, the GOP hands the election to the Dems in 2020.
There is not one of those other 15 GOP wannabes from 2016 [nor any new GOP faces] who could replace him and win.
Trump has two things going for him now that he didn’t have in 2016: (1) a record to run on; and (2) no uncertainties about who he is and how he might govern. He’ll be almost impossible to beat.
It would be a good thing, it would let us see who should never again be in any position of power within the party.
Between the "intellectual" coasts, the grass roots support for Trump is huge and unprecedented. Anybody challenging Trump for the Republican nomination is going to get beaten like a rented mule.
I can't believe they actually think that. I'm more inclined to believed they do this for attention, money, and a perceived stature boost. In other words, all about THEM.
More like 'alternatives to reality' - deus ex machina is just for starters...
A primary challenge is meaningless. An independent (libertarian or anti-Trump) third party campaign could be a nightmare.
Matt Lewis is a Cheap Labor Express propagandist.
They really don’t want us to restore the rule of law and return to their own countries the 30 million people they invited here against the will of the citizens.
I’m not at all convinced the Never Trumpers are interested in a “Reaganite”.
Invariably NeverTrumpers are Cheap Labor Express stooges who are still hell bent on completing the GHW Bush Plan for North Mexico.
Theyd need to find a saleable candidate first. A kasick-Romney-bush ticket would never work. (The only thing I was worried about is Djt calling it quits. But todays press says hes building up his campaign resources for 2020 - so all the commieD shit- hurling hadnt fazed him )
They are not clueless, they are committed to completing the GHW Bush Plan for North Mexico.
Blocking the citizens from stopping the illegal alien inundation has been the life’s work of Bush League Republicans.
They want a Yeb!
Someone who backs open borders and amnesty.
I’d think a Bill Weld with a couple hundred million dollars of deep state advertising money could garner a solid 22% of the R primary votes. So it would be a nice economic boost for consultants and tv advertising.
