Jussie Smollett’s biggest problem was not lying about being attacked by Trump supporting homophobic racists, but it was lying while being black and gay.
Smollett had opposers and supporters fighting to find the truth about whether he had been attacked or not. Nevertheless, Smollett was indicted for disorderly conduct after allegedly staging a hate crime and filing a false report.
Chicago Chief of Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said in a press conference, “This announcement today recognized ‘Empire’ actor Jussie Smollett took advantage of the pain and anger of racism to promote his career.”
While Smollett was disappointed in making $65,000 an episode—a rich person problem—we can’t ignore the fact that he could possibly face time in prison for a lie. Unfortunately, the money he does have might not save him because of his race and sexuality.
I do not agree with Smollett because he used his platform to lie instead of using his platform to help people who actually go through this stuff everyday. He lost a part of being an ally in his own communities.
I still don’t believe he should go to prison.
In this day and age, race is brought up a lot. It is important to recognize that if Smollett were a white, straight man or woman, I promise he wouldn’t be in the situation he’s in now.
Emmett Till’s murderers were let go when Carolyn Bryant lied and said Till grabbed her and was sexaully crude to her, which she has since confessed was not true.
The president of the United State lies everyday about major issues that eventually lead to his administration caging children.

It is inexcusable to bring up what happened in Mississippi in 1955 as if it were an everyday thing in 2019 while acting as if black people are not killing each other and white people on a regular basis now.

I am growing ever more tired of these people who pretend that white privilege, which died decades ago, is still alive and well and refuse to see that any and all preferences today are given to NONwhites. I have spent my seventy four years minus three years active duty here in the “cradle of the confederacy” and anyone who walks around with open eyes can see that the top of the pyramid here is more and more being reserved for black women while white males are being pushed further down every day. I could be on a different planet than I was born on five days before D-Day.
If Smollett were white and hired two white men to attack him and reported an attack by two black men every “journalist” in the entire USA would be calling for him to be jailed for life or worse and he would be given the maximum penalty possible under the law as well as for any other imaginary laws that could be fantasized. We all know this is true and it is time to start calling a spade a spade.
I’d take that bet too, just look at all the clowns who do have jobs as “journalists”.
A journal is an account of events for one definition, nowhere is it defined as fictional writing or opinion so a real journalist is someone who reports actual events in a manner as true to reality as humanly possible. Most who call themselves journalist now are more like science fiction writers without seeming to even realize that they are fiction writers.

Widely reported in Hollywood press that he was making $65k per episode. $65k times 18 episodes is well over $1 million. He’s not a star and there are cast members of more popular shows that are in that salary range.
