Get ready to break out your recipes for roadkill. Eating wild animals killed by a car could soon become legal in California. Senator Bob Archuleta introduced a so-called you kill it, you grill it bill at the Capitol this week. The bill reads, each year it is estimated that over 20,000 deer alone are hit by vehicles on California roadways. This translates into hundreds of thousands of pounds of healthy meat that could be utilized to feed those in need. Its a recipe for unusual dinnertime conversation.

“Can one, per the leg., shoot a deer standing on the road with, say, a FIREARM, and then take that sucker home and turn it into sausage?”
Why not? It’s still been “hit”, right?
Should go well with the Typhus etc
Fresh and tender, right off the fender.
Hitting a moose at speed is normally fatal for both the moose and the driver/front passenger of the vehicle.
Not so much for the AKRR.
yup very true
A road kill armadillo placed upside down on the engine will cook in it’s own juices in about 150 miles
Sorry, but after running over a frog with a car, you don't get frog legs.
You get frog chips! Delicious!
I’ve eaten a few deer that have been freshly hit by me or someone I know.
In Indiana, all you have to do is call the county Sheriff, they send out a Deputy to give you a certificate allowing you to transport and possess and it’s all yours to do as you wish.
There’s usually at least half of the meat that is usable, providing the innards aren’t busted.
My Grandma used to make those armadillo baskets out of roadkill.
Wish I had kept one.
When I worked in a remote area with animals jumping in front of me always ate that I hit if it was intact enough or didn’t make it back to the forrest. Mostly hares. Once it was a deer so I had to call a police for insurance reason and had to leave it in place. Another time it was a pig but it ran away.
Exactly.
In Alaska there is a list for roadkill harvests. As soon as a dead moose is found, whoever administers the list is called and they alert the next person/group on the list.
Thats pretty disgusting but how would you stop people from doing this?
Best chili I’ve ever made was from an elk taken with a “87” GMC.
A sad day for the buzzards in CA.
Soon in california roadkill will be the only available protein souce. Some people actually think if road kill was legal people would intentionally hit deer with their cars as if risking your life and potentially totaling your car would be a good exchange. On, the other hand, in places like venezuela, I think many people would gladly destroy an entire city for a deer
While driving across the state of Kansas from Missouri, I was amazed at the numbers of mule deer that were lying on the side of the road. Most likely they were killed by semis driving at night.......
A few years back, I saw California condors that have taken up permanent residence in Grand Canyon.......in Arizona
Even the buzzards have left
The illegals have to eat too.
Sweet. No more deer tags. No bag limit. No closed season. When the freezer gets a little low on venison just take an early morning drive up in the mountains.
