WYOMING GRIZZLIES SHIPPED TO CALIFORNIA SIGNED INTO LAW GOV. MARK GORDON SIGNED BILL INTO LAW
By EHUNTR -February 20, 2019 WYOMING GRIZZLIES SHIPPED Photo Credit: Pexels Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon signed several bills into law late last week. One particular bill would allow grizzly hunts to take place if the state feels that its needed.
The grizzly bear population in the greater Yellowstone ecosystem has recovered by all measurable recovery criteria, since at least 2003, with approximately seven hundred (700) grizzly bears currently living in the ecosystem; Bill SF0093
Another part of the bill includes the relocation of problems bears to states that have a below average number of bears. In particular, the state of California!
Grizzly bears are trapped and relocated in Wyoming and in some cases are euthanized for livestock depredation, property damage or endangerment of human life. If the game and fish commission determines under the laws of the state of Wyoming that extraterritorial relocation would be beneficial for managing Wyomings wildlife and protecting Wyoming workers and other citizens and tourists of the state, the game and fish commission may relocate to the state of California, to states with a grizzly bear population below the threshold for Endangered Species Act protection or to other willing states with suitable habitat all grizzly bears trapped for relocation. Bill SF0093
The flag of the state of California does have the Grizzly Bear on it, is it time for them to reintroduce Grizzlies? The last Grizzly Bear to roam the state of California was killed back in 1922, in Tulare County. Since then the state has enjoyed freedom from some of the problems that unmanaged Grizzly Bears can create.
Could we see a new Grizzly Bear hunt in the state of Wyoming? The new Wyoming Game and Fish Director, Brian Nesvick believes that Grizzlies should be managed like other species. Management of animals is key for any state and should not be overlooked simply because of the animal being managed. Science has shown that this type of management works. It should be scientifically based, and not based on emotion alone.
The bill was introduced on 1/16/19, and just over a month ago it was signed into Law. A big win for hunters and conservationists in the state of Wyoming.
I’m glad some of the west is still run by westerners.
The way the politics are going, they should be able to relocate them all to Colorado soon enough. Saves on long shipping—but if they aren’t far enough over the border they will return soon enough. Just south of the Denver area should work well enough.
They’ll probably die. Adaptation is not that easy.
Shipping problem bears to California. That is funny.
It’s part of agenda 21.
San Francisco would be a good location for them
On the bright side, introducing grizzles should keep the number of illegal campers, who cause a number of forest fires in the hills, down.
Isn’t Amazon amazing?
Too bad the southern border habitat isn’t suitable for grizzly bears?
It would be karmic if they would relocate some of these problem bears to California.
There are some who won't see the irony.. :)
I guess theyre relocating those problem bears to sanctuary cities. Sounds good to me.
This is actually a good idea.
Wyoming can only support so many brown bears.
California was brown bear territory, and still has significant wild territory capable of supporting brown bears. I would think that you could fit a few hundred bears before really having a negative impact upon California ranching.
Move a half dozen or so each year, to make the transition managable.
That was my first thought as well.
The climate is a bit different as is the food supply.
It’ll be interesting to observe.
Hahaha... Put one griz in every park in Calif... Maybe two in Golden Gate Park!
It was, the Mexican Brown Bear (Grizzlies are sub-species of Brown Bears) was hunted to extinction.
Thank goodness these grizzlies were signed into law! Now instead of grizzly outlaws, we’ll have grizzly inlaws!
Gators should well in the Rio Grand from El Paso southward... :)
I’m from Wyoming. Ca can have the wolves as well!
Grizzly bears in California = Very late term abortions. Well at least the wildfire crews now have a reason to stay at home.
