Barbara Corcoran: False Fear and Politics Killed the Amazon NYC HQ2 Deal

Some people in Queens may be cheering over Amazons escape from New York City, but real estate queen and Shark Tank investor Barbara Corcoran definitely isnt.
When it first came out, it was the best news I heard in the 40 years I've been the real estate business, Corcoran told Yahoo Finances On The Move. I saw it as the beginning of a phenomenal wave that was going to reinvent the city and make everybody say wow they've got their game going. They won the bid.
But after Amazon (AMZN) called off the plans to build its second headquarters, she was stunned and worried: The fallout is that other large companies thinking of following their heels, thinking that New York was the it place to be, the place where you really want to plunk down a ton of money and create a lot of jobs. [Now] they're pausing and thinking about it.
The loss of 25,000 jobs among other benefits was unthinkable to Corcoran.
You know it's it's a shame, Corcoran continued. I'm so upset over this, I have to say. Because I really believed that New York was going to go through a new renaissance.

I have to say though, good for Corcoran. I like her and her story. She's respected and maybe the fallout from this will be severe enough for the DNC to send AOC packing in 4 years.

I hope not. AOC and her like minded radical associates are the only thing that make Republicans worth voting for. ;)
Upset over THAT? I don’t think she has to worry about much.
Well, New York could have 250,000 new jobs tomorrow if they would change their tax and regulatory structure to welcome them. Bribing Amazon and offsetting the cost by continuing to loot small and medium-sized businesses would only have been a cosmetic win. AOCs faction, however, detests smaller businesses as unmanageable opponents of the Revolution, so her defeat of Amazon helps no one but the radical Left - who believe The worse, the better.
Shes respected and maybe the fallout from this will be severe enough for the DNC to send AOC packing in 4 years.
But she cited the impossible...get rid of the politicians wanting to make a big name for themselves, get rid of the community people fanning the flames and fighting the move, get rid of all the old grievances.
Not gonna happen.
No. Democrats will continue to be far left, extremist loudmouths. Republicans have not been worth voting for but Trump is gradually dragging them, kicking and whimpering, to positions of Constitutional integrity. Just maybe we will see a real difference.
That's okay, because NYC has something even better, Girl Power and magic unicorns!
Not a good prognosis for NYC. If it took over $3.5 billion of tax abatements as well as considerable regulatory relief to attract a company as big and sophisticated as Amazon, imagine how these inherent obstacles of taxes and regulations discourage ordinary investors. Now investors realize they must also placate a corrupt, huge, predatory, political class. Most will go elsewhere to invest.
I’m a NYer, and I’m against the progressive central planners handing out taxpayer money to attract favored crony-capitalists to come to this state.
5 years ago, Cuomo wasted $750 million building a plant for Solar City/TESLA in Buffalo. Of course, there was then all kinds of corruption and kickbacks because of it as politically connected people took their cuts. This factory is at about 10% of promised employment.
I agree with AOC, but for completely different reasons.
I love it! I celebrate it! New York has been solidly Democrat for a long time, and they want to feel the Bern.
Give them exactly what they’re asking for, meanwhile, let someplace else that’s not so communist prosper when Amazon moves there.
Yeah, ‘eff NY and everyone who lives there.

It can be plausibly argued that Amazon heard from other companies that got royally screwed by the city and state of New York. Amazon was likely told by companies volunteering the testimony. “Stay the hell away. Do not come to New York”
House reps are up for re-election every two years. Personally I'm beyond sick of seeing her horse teeth, pop-eyes, ugly features and open mouth in thirty or forty pictures a day now.
You’re upset because the country is going Socialist and one day the shark will eat YOU.
NY will most likely punish success with higher taxes before the leftists pay any penalty at the polls.

That’s a bridge too far, even for Trump. Let’s face it, Republicans are weak, unprincipled and, unlike Trump, they are only there for themselves. They talk the conservative game just before elections as a ploy to get our votes. The reality is all they care about is doing the bidding of the special interests that fund them.
There’s not an ounce of integrity in them.
AO-C is a House representative. They only serve two year terms, not four.
Get your facts straight.
Good morning to you!
It’s called a typo. Or perhaps you prefer brain flatulence.
Good God
I am not the spelling or grammer police. I make typos too.
But an obvious factual error needs to be corrected.
Have a good day yourself. :-)
