Democratic Sens. Kamala Harris (Calif.) and Elizabeth Warren (Mass.), who are both running for president, have reportedly said they support reparations for black Americans affected by slavery.
The New York Times reported Thursday that Harris affirmed her support for reparations in a statement after agreeing last week with a radio host that reparations are necessary.
"We have to be honest that people in this country do not start from the same place or have access to the same opportunities," Harris said in the statement. "I’m serious about taking an approach that would change policies and structures and make real investments in black communities."
Warren has also said that she supports reparations, according to the Times, though her campaign declined to provide further details to the newspaper.
The Hill has reached out to both campaigns for comment.
Warren and Harris are both pursuing the Democratic nomination for president in 2020 and the Times noted that previous Democratic presidential candidates have not supported reparations.
Among those who have not backed the policy are former President Obama, 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and her Democratic rival that year, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), the Times noted. Sanders is running for president again in 2020.

Folks who say it’s a crushing ordeal to get a govt ID to vote will come running for a DNA test that entitles them to reparation bucks.
Why stop there. Let’s have reparations for all the families of the deceased that fought to end slavery.
I agree. Every person currently alive who was a slave before 1865 should be compensated.There are very, very few people alive today whose Grandparents were alive in 1865.

Black Americans alive today have been far more harmed by democrat programs still in place than the ghost of a long-dead stain on this country’s history.

Just deduct from every reparation payment the amount of welfare payments each person “affected by slavery” has received in his/her lifetime. Also deduct the value of the American lifestyle that each of these people has enjoyed.
In other words, the cash value of the difference between living in the USA and living in Africa should be deducted from the reparation payment.

Most white people in this country weren’t born with a silver spoon in their mouths, either, and the depression years took care of any wealth they had managed to accumulate.
And then there were programs initiated to help make sure Black Americans had opportunities.
Didn’t any of that level the playing field? What will it take?
Isn’t forcing me to pay “reparations” a form of slavery? This LIB asshat nitwits need to be exiled for the good of law-based, civil society. What lunatics.
Go after descendants of slave traders- or countries that sold the people into slavery.
