America’s foreign-born population has reached its highest level in over 100 years, driven by immigrants from Latin America, according to new Census Bureau data.
What’s more, the Pew Research Center has found that most Latinos feel the percentage of foreigners in the United States is just about right, though 14 percent said America needs more.
The analysis from Pew showed that the last 50 years have seen the biggest surge in immigration into the U.S. since before the Civil War. There are currently 44-45 million foreign-born in the U.S., 14 percent of the total population.
"Today, immigrants from Latin America make up more than half of the roughly 45 million immigrants living in the country, including the majority of unauthorized immigrants," said Pew.
What’s more, the immigrant share of the U.S. population is just below what it was during the great migrations at the turn of the 19th Century.

Well, ummm, no.
The US border has been wide open for decades and will continue to be so without any new political money (not counting cartels and Mexican politicians).
Democrats will continue and always oppose any check on illegal immigration for votes; and Republicans, with few exceptions, are too balless to oppose it. No further money required to sustain.
They won’t be considered foreigners after a few years.
Yes that’s true.
These people are no blending in. They are busy creating everything from regions of Mexico, to large towns made up of Somalis.
It has to stop!
foreign born and anchor baby migrants now outnumber African-Americans and American Indians/Alaskan natives combined. And are in direct competition with them for goodies. Who will prevail and who will slide into obscurity, bearing in mind the slavery and racism backgrounds of the recent wave of migrants?
For people like you and I, perhaps. For others not in our situation, it may help to get this decades long national emergency to finally sink in. (see next).
