For Sens. Kamala D. Harris and Cory A. Booker, Democratic presidential candidates who were promoting an anti-lynching bill, the “attack” on actor Jussie Smollett in Chicago looked like a horrible yet opportune talking point.
Instead, the apparent hoax is turning out to be a warning to 2020 Democratic candidates about singling out people for martyrdom, including the woman who accused Supreme Court Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh of sexual assault and the drum-banging American Indian who confronted Catholic high school students on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.
In the rush to speak too soon about the Smollett case, Ms. Harris and Mr. Booker stand out.
Just before noon on Jan. 29, news reports emerged on social media that Mr. Smollett, an actor on the TV show “Empire,” had been attacked by two men yelling racial and homophobic slurs. He claimed the men said something about “MAGA country,” suggesting they were Trump supporters.
Mr. Smollett said the two men put a rope around his neck.
Five hours after the initial report, Ms. Harris, a former California attorney general, pronounced the attack genuine and called it “an attempted modern-day lynching.” “We must confront this hate,” she tweeted.
But this week, confronted with growing indications that Mr. Smollett’s story was a hoax concocted to help his television career, Ms. Harris has become a devotee of caution.
“I think that the facts are still unfolding,” she said. “I’m not going to comment until I know the outcome of the investigation.”
Two brothers told police that the “Empire” actor staged an attack on himself because he was upset that a threatening letter he reported a week earlier did not receive enough attention, a law enforcement official told ABC News. The FBI is looking into whether Mr. Smollett concocted the letter.

Agreed, every time they post a story villainizing Trump supporters they foster hatred and violence against them. But who is going to sue on our behalf? Personally I wish Trump himself would get more aggressive in a legal sense against the fake news outlets.
What is going to "get" Jussie in my opinion is the threat letter/white powder - FEDERAL charges. Here's a good article on all of it .... :
Late Monday, CWBChicago received confirmation that the letter case has been before a federal grand jury and multiple subpoenas have been generated over the course of the investigation.
In a conversation on Feb. 8th, before police met with brothers Ola and Abel Osundairo, a leading source within the Smollett attack investigation called the hate crime a "false flag" and said “There is a direct line between (the letter) and (the purported attack)." In the same conversation, the source hinted at what was to come: "This is not a whodunit. It's a how-many-people-dunit."
Whoever mailed the letter "made an enormous mistake," we were told. Federal charges were "certain."

A law firm partner who asked not to be identified by name spoke with us about the federal problems ahead for whoever mailed the letter: “If they have Smollett on the letter, he’ll be facing ’terroristic hoax’ charges, a felony. There may be federal obstruction charges as well.”
All in all, the federal legal options are numerous: “If they want to bury him, they can.”
How did they get burned they all still have their cushy jobs.
I love looking at the long, long list of people they are suing, more than the (alleged) news outlets, but individuals including Elizabeth Warren and Ihlan Omar. May they all go down in flames.
Not trying to imply anything, but he and Harris are friends.
In the last two months, we’ve had the Buzzfeed disaster, Covington kids and now this.
The media has no interest in “learning”. They only want to advance the narrative.
A guy called into the Larry Elder show and called this hoax FAKE NOOSE.

Maybe there was coordination (or dare I say collusion)with the Harris campaign and the media?
If Jussie had been on the correct side of the surveillance cam things would be quite different today.
Seems like the “news” people were prepared to roll out their story.
The law affecting Smollett's hoax letter would be 18 U.S. Code § 876. 'Mailing threatening communications'.
But I don't think that he can be said to have violated it because he sent the fake 'threat' to himself.
His biggest worry would be that some agency spent time and money investigating his letter because he filed a false report... that could bite him. But I'm not sure that anyone bothered with his hoax letter.
Hussein Obama knows Smollett and Harris. Think Chicago.
Hussein was a community organizer, he is sure he is too smart to get caught involved in a scam like this.
