Former Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe said Tuesday that none of the top eight congressional leaders objected when he briefed them in 2017 on the bureau's decision to open a counterintelligence investigation into President Trump.
"The purpose of the briefing was to let our congressional leadership know exactly what wed been doing," McCabe, who was the acting FBI director at the time, said during an interview on NBC's "Today" show.
McCabe acknowledged that he ordered the investigation, but pushed back against suggestions that he'd acted alone in doing so. He said that he consulted with his team, reviewed it with bureau lawyers and discussed it with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein before moving forward.
"And I told Congress what we had done," he said.
"No one objected," he added in the interview. "Not on legal grounds, not on constitutional grounds and not based on the facts."
The New York Times first reported last month that the FBI launched an inquiry into whether Trump was working for Russia after the president fired former bureau chief James Comey. McCabe took over as acting director after Comey's ouster.
The "Gang of Eight" consists of the top two leaders from each party in each chamber of Congress. Representatives around the time of the 2017 meeting would have included Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), then-Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and then-House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

So the new AG Burr was one of the very “Gang of Eight” that were ok with the FBI trying to take down Trump?
The IC Gang of Eight were in on it. As were the FISA judges. As was the supervisor of the FISA judges, John Roberts.
Maybe some were not willingly in on it. But we(as a nation) stupidly permitted the NSA to amass the largest blackmail dossier in the history of the world. And we put people like the Clintons, Obama, Jarrett, Brennan, Clapper, Power, Comey, Rice, etc., etc,, etc., in positions to illicitly access that blackmail dossier.
Lo and behold! The most corrupt people in our nation’s history use that apparatus for nefarious purposes.
Meghan McCain ought to be glad her father ain’t alive to be roasted at the ballot box for this.

The new AG is Bill Barr....not Burr
“If this is true, ALL heads should roll. Even McCain, dig him up...”
Yup, put him on trial casket and all, and when found guilty bury him in a rice paddy in Nam. That’s what the bastard deserves.
No, McCAin would not be roasted at the ballot box because AZ voters not only voted for McCain, but Jeff Flake. There is no excuse for voter malpractice like that.
That's a different Gang of Eight
The Gang of Eight McCabe briefed on the Trump probe is comprised of the House leaders of both parties, the Senate leaders of both parties plus leaders of the House intelligence and Senate intelligence committees.
That's Ryan, Pelosi, McConnell, Schumer, Nunes, Schiff, Burr and Warner.
I want to see transcripts of all these meetings!
I think the new AG, Bill Barr ought to take charge!
If no transcripts exist, then every member of every “Gang of Eight” must be separately put under oath and seriously questioned, preferably within the same time period.
Mrs. Pelosi, Mr. Schumer, Mr. Ryan, Mr. McConnell; what a foursome! Not for games of golf or contract bridge!
BUMP
The SWAMP
The new AG, Bill Barr will have to take charge of everything McCabe and Mueller.
I know that Barr has received letters from former, retired FBI assistant directors urging him to take such direct action because the reputation and the bureau itself depends upon a wholesale cleansing of the upper management and leftover agents loyal to the Comey regime. Two of the aforementioned appeared on Laura’s show last night. I have forgotten their names.
You’re correct on all points.
It’s astonishing to me what our government has become, it needs a clean sweep.
I would say right now that McConnell and Nunes have the most explaining to do to Trump...by far. All the others would be expected to go along and support the coup...those two are hanging out there like sore thumbs.
McConnell is probably going to be able to slime through because he’s a prime member of the most corrupt legislative body in the history of mankind. Nunes better have notified Trump of this right away...or things might not be very pleasant moving forward.
So, the fact that these clowns did not object makes it OK?
Their logic defies....logic.
Plus, in 2017, Steny Hoyer, John Cornyn (whips), President pro-tempor Orin Hatch, Democratic party caucus chairman Xavier Becerra, Republican Party Floor Leader Kevin McCarthy. Steve Scalise was Republican party whip until 2017. So, it depends on when McCabe met with them.
It’s really hard to find out who’s what, when -— as if it were a big secret. One source says one thing, another source says something different. But, I would expect whichever republicans were in that hang of eight to be identified by someone smarter than I, and if they are at liberty to divulge the minutes of that meeting, and have proof they disagree with Mccabe’s account, we’ll hear it.
When this began, it included McCain and Graham. And Ryan. They don’t want to admit that.
And the later members might have actually known more than the early ones.
Correct.
“Root and Branch” McConnell is up for reelection in 2020. What do you want to bet he retires rather than face voters again?
It only highlights the role of Republican traitors who want to destroy PDJT without being held responsible.
Yep. None of this ever happens without bipartisan Never Trumpism and top cover for the GOPe.
Point two: We may presume McCabe deceived these ‘gang of eight’ fools, since the FISA warrants were ALL issued under false predicate.
Point three: The GOP has aided and abetted the Mueller Coup at every turn. There is plenty of evidence McCabe is telling the truth here. Sorry.
