HAHA! That kind of happened to me in real life one Christmas shopping season. I had seen a thing I thought a friend would love, but it was ridiculously expensive, like $70 for an earring holder. Later that year the price went down to $20. I was elated. I bought it, my friend did love it, and I probably spent that $50 in savings ten times over because I kept saying to myself: I saved so much on that gift for M., I can surely buy this other thing now!
I believe the residents feared the first part you mentioned; they were going to be displaced. The second would definitely have been a boost in a city, state, and region that desperately need it.

Correct, poor people that AOC actually represents may not be able to afford the rents(ARE TOO DAMN HIGH)in the area because of this. So, her peeps might actually be down with the loss of Amazon. However, those people only vote. They do not make campaign contributions or buy tickets to $2500/plate dinners. They are not the real people that get candidates reelected. Her district may be redrawn after the 2020 census due to the loss of NY population.
