Former Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke beaten by inmates in prison

A former Chicago police officer convicted of second-degree murder in the killing of an African-American teenager he shot 16 times received a dose of prison justice just days after Illinois prosecutors moved to seek a harsher sentence for him, his wife said Thursday.

Jason Van Dyke was allegedly beaten by inmates at a federal prison in Danbury, Connecticut, where he was secretly moved to last week, his wife and his attorneys said during a news conference in Chicago.

Because he was PCP freak who was coming at him with a knife, duh. I agree it shouldn’t have been 16, one between the eyes would have sufficed.

Agreed. Occasionally, when the sentence is way too lenient, I feel twinges of pleasure at “prison justice” (rape of a child gets 30 days, and that sort of nonsense), but for the most part I’m strict law and order. When we lock even the worst of the worst up and assume control over their ability to defend themselves, disarming them confers on us an absolute responsibility for their safety in return.

I like most cops and trust most cops, but I recognize the impunity with which the relatively few bad ones can act out.
