Trump’s State of the Union address didn’t mention fixing Social Security. That’s a problem.

President Trump delivered one of the longest State of the Union speeches, clocking in at 82 minutes.

Trump covered a great number of issues, including the high cost of prescription drugs, the opioid crisis, estate taxes and a new government-wide initiative that will focus on the economic empowerment of women in developing countries.

Although Trump didn’t talk about the $5.7 billion in funds he’s been demanding for a border wall, he spent a fair amount of time talking about illegal immigration.

“My administration has sent to Congress a common-sense proposal to end the crisis on the southern border," Trump said.

There’s no question that there are a lot of issues the administration should be tackling. But glaringly absent from Trump’s plan for the country was a proposal to fix Social Security, which is definitely facing a serious crisis.

Trump was the only GOP candidate who promised not to cut Social Security. He understands that white blue collar workers - or unemployed - would be hardest hit. And these are the people who made him president

The pre-Trump GOP always talked about cutting benefits for America’s seniors - But was fine with wasting trillions of dollars on foreign nation-building

I supported Trump because he promised a new direction

Congress just proposed EXPANDING the already insolvent Social Security.

And the Post complains about Trump saying nothing.

Not going to fix much with aunt Nancy’s House. The cabinet secretaries can help to trim things. Everyone inside the beltway is sharpening knives for 2020.

Keep SS for anyone currently over 50.

Cut it for the rest of us and let us invest our money how we want.

Help them get that first half million $ by age 50. Then they’re on their own.

What the Washington Post Nazis need to worry about is can they duck a high rate of fire from the M134 Minigun.

You can’t fix social security at this point. It’s too late.

One battle at a time, please.

Let’s get a wall first.

While running for President, Trump promised 1) to build a wall; 2) not to cut Social Security. Those were two reasons I supported his nomination

Since the WaPo can’t truly come up with honest criticism of his SOTU, they pull this out of their butt.

Social Security can't be fixed except by judicial decree or by a dictator. You might as well get used to it.

You wouldn't even find a majority of poster here on this site who want to "fix" Social Security. LOL.

Around 2035 there will be a cut of benefits of about 25% or raising taxes on the American Workforce by a like number....

Or

Or

Or

A combination of both

To Paraphrase Greenspan:

“We can guarantee cash payments out to perpetuity but we can not guarantee its purchasing power”.

Bye bye corporate pensions.
Bye bye Gov’t pensions.
Bye bye 401k
Bye bye Soc Sec

Got Silver?

All those conservatives and libertarians who say they don’t like Social Security should tell the Soc Sec Administration not to send them any checks. That should keep the system solvent for the rest of us. Me, I used to have an ideological problem with federal spending on safety nets for Americans - until I saw trillions being wasted on foreign invasions and nation-building, with no objection from my fellow conservatives and libertarians. Now, I figure if we have the money to lavish abroad, we can damn well afford to help citizens here at home

That’s one way to look at it. We might also consider it our patriotic duty to bankrupt the system, too.
