Republicans in California: Can the GOP Survive?
Commonwealth Club ^ | February 5, 2019 | Commonwealth Club

Posted on 02/15/2019 5:53:26 PM PST by SFmom

A panel discussion of California Republicans: Catherine Baker, FORMER Assemblywomen R-16; Kevin Faulkoner, Mayor of San Diego; Kristin Olsen, FORMER Minority Leader, California State Assembly, etc. etc.; Matt Shupe, Director John Cox for Governor and Chair of Republican party in Contra Costa county (East Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area); Snarky Moderator Scott Shafer, KQED (PBS) Senior Political editor. All discussed how evil Trump was and how he cost them their races! I attended and feel obligated to report on this pathetic exercise.

First, thank you for your post. If enough of us start to talk to each other about the sorry state of our State, perhaps a leader will emerge to again pull CA Freepers together. I recall the Clinton days of Chapter leaders, and corner Freepins, full of flags and happy people.
We should not spend a second on split milk - but spend lots of time in preparing for the future. Who to vote for and who to protest. If anyone knows of a nubbin of Conservation power left in Orange county, please share. I’m through with the country club rinos, etc.

The voting process is now rigged in California so only Democrats can win. Republicans can’t even get on the ballot.

John Cox was a hoax.

I told everyone who wanted me to donate “let it go. Gavin will be governor, end of story. Spend money on races outside the state where it matters , because for the foreseeable future California is Democrat

Early on I applied the acronym GOPES Government Over (the) People Elite Statists to folks like this. But it didn’t seem to catch on.

How do the Dems survive? People are leaving in droves. All polls show disfavor with illegal immigration and sanctuary city concept.

We live in California and voted for John Cox, thinking he would fight to win Governor’s race.

Maybe I missed his other campaign stops, but to me, John Cox did not seem to make any until the last weekend before the election.

I was at one in Rowland Heights on the Saturday before election Tuesday. About 100 of us showed up. The low numbers were probably because the news stations did not give it any advanced notice. And his campaign web page did not list any until the last minute.

Plus, we were all hoping and praying that Trump would come to the Orange County area for a rally alongside Cox, but it did not materialize.

WE. FELT. ABANDONED.

You hear that, Mr. President? THAT will not get it done.

Maybe after the Presidency, Trump can run for Governor over here in California ( and please don’t call it “CALI” )

Concisely and accurately expressed. Except for a national office the winner of any Republican primary is prohibited from appearing on the final ballot if two or more Democrats/Leftists receive more votes in that primary — a truly “one-party state solution” imposed by the Democfrat/Left majority. (Isn’t “pure democracy” just grand?!)

Hey, I'd gladly settle for Devin Nunes!

In my state the legislature tried to declare the GOP a “minor” party which would have to re-qualify every election just to get on the ballot. Fortunately that was struck down, but it shows the mentality.

Probably the best bet. Libertarian, freedom oriented candidates using the Democrat party as their own, showing up in their personal platforms the hypocrisy of their “fellow” (traditional racist pc corrupt) Dems.

Platform in CA should include:

- equality for all, including taxpayers, property owners, etc. focus on gay and Hispanic small business and home owners, and how the pro-illegal, pro-homeless policies are breaking them.

- truth about the state pensions

- truth about corruption in Sacramento

- truths about the corrupt utility companies and their roles in causing these devastating fires

- reminding voters that human beings are an important part of the environment, and the only species ever trying to Help any of the others; let’s elevate the human over some of the others like the delta smelt and try and use the water to help this most beneficial species, us.

The state can be improved 300% without mentioning conservative, trump, or republican. Just get right to the truths.

These sanctuary states are breaking so many laws that Sessions couldn't find not one he could charge them with violating.
