Except that the bill he just signed will very likely be used to keep him from doing just that. He should have vetoed that POS. When Oh When will we get the line item veto for the Oval Office? I know...double edged sword but...it would have been handy this week.
It is within his power as President to do this.

Ann Coulter & Co. whining about the “amnesty” for “sponsors” of UAC’s. But TRUMP’s DHS and ICE can set very strict limits on them, and deport them if rejected. Also the limit on beds is meaningless, since Trump can use part of his $8 billion to setup Sheriff Joe-style tent cities, as he has already promised.
And by declaring an emergency, it guarantees it will be tied up in the courts. /sigh
I hope that statement does not hurt him in court, as saying he didn’t need to do it seems to contradict it being a qualifying emergency.
The Federal procurement process takes forever for almost ALL large projects. Trump has funding for the 55 miles of “Barrier” in Texas..., the rest will ultimately wend its way to the SC! Hopefully, an expedited appeals route will happen (who knows with Roberts these days...???)!
That was not a smart thing to say. He just admitted that he doesn’t really believe there is an emergency. That undermines his declaration. Dumb.

Just like he will now supposedly defend his emergency declaration in court saying it is such an emergency he has to violate the omnibus law—that he just today signed.

Everyone is going off half cocked! NOBODY really KNOWS what is in the deal or what exactly it means, or what will happen.
Cool your jets. Let it play out. Trump has been looking at this for months. They know what they are doing. I’m sure they are ready for court challenges. I read/heard somewhere that the “national emergency” declaration only applied to ONE of the money pools. The others are not likely to see court challenges. We’ll see.
