A week ago yesterday, a New Yorker from Queens, Anthony Hobson, beat and dragged his girlfriend, Jennifer Irigoyen, down a flight of stairs and then stabbed her in the neck, abdomen and torso. He stabbed her in the stomach because he wanted to kill the baby he fathered (some news stories say she was 14 weeks pregnant and others put the figure at 20 weeks). The pregnant woman shouted, “He’s got a knife. He’s going to kill the baby!”
Hobson killed both the woman and her baby. He was immediately charged with two crimes, but the charge for killing her baby was subsequently dropped: it was noted that Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s new abortion law provides no penalties for the killing of unborn children; abortion was removed from the criminal code and inserted into the public health law. Cuomo has not commented on what he has wrought.
The Albany lawmaker who sponsored the bill that Cuomo lobbied for, State Sen. Liz Krueger, and her colleague in the senate, Anna Kaplan, authored an article in the Times Union that disagrees with the Queens prosecutor’s interpretation of the law. They say there is nothing in the law that prevents any prosecutor from charging someone like Hobson for a crime. They say Hobson could be prosecuted for first-degree assault, a sentence that is harsher than the previous sentence for “unlawful abortion.”

This man murdered his girlfriend - the mother of his baby - and his baby - with a knife. This is demonic.

“Initially, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said Hobson also would be charged with second-degree abortion in the death of Irigoyen’s unborn baby. However, a spokeswoman later told the Post that Hobson will not face the abortion charge because it “was repealed by the legislature.”
“A woman was brutally stabbed — killing her and the unborn child,” Brown said in a statement. “The defendant is alleged to have shown no mercy and no regard for human life when he repeatedly and purposely plunged a knife into this expectant mother’s abdomen, torso and neck.”
Police said Hobson, Irigoyen’s boyfriend, turned himself in last week, and now faces charges of second-degree murder, tampering with evidence and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Hobson is accused of dragging Irigoyen out of her Queens apartment and brutally stabbing her to death. Police said someone called 911 after finding Irigoyen bleeding heavily in the vestibule of an apartment building on Myrtle Avenue early Feb. 3.
A neighbor reportedly heard Irigoyen yell, “He’s got a knife! He’s going to kill the baby!” around 1 a.m. Feb. 3 around the time of the attack.”
I was wondering about this for the same reason. When you kill an unborn child, such as in a drunk driving accident, you are charged with the death of that unborn child aside from any other charges.
I am given to understand that this varies from state to state. Certainly New York has now clarified its stance on the matter.
Demonic... and sanctioned. Congratulations, New York, on top of everything else, you just managed to incentivize violence against women.
They sure have. I wonder how many are already in prison on similar charges who will now appeal and be cut loose.

I think they need to write a law that says ‘murdering an unborn child is only murder if the mother WANTED said child’. That way, if the mother was planning an abortion, but her baby daddy murdered her before she obtained that abortion, the only murder of record would be the mother’s death. This mother wanted her baby, so the count should be 2 murders.
See, I can think like a Democrat, too. Sadly, that thinking makes me ill, so I won’t do it too often.

The 14th victim at Ft. Hood’s terrorist attack was an unborn baby-that wasn’t counted, IIRC.
Homicide is actually the second leading cause of death among pregnant women after car accidents, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
This law, allowing someone to kill an unborn child and not be charged with murder, is going to put many pregnant girls/women in significant danger, more than they are already in. Any guy that doesn’t want to be hassled about getting married (if unmarried), doesn’t want kids, doesn’t want to pay child support, wants the one link (child) between himself and some woman he got pregnant to be gone, just got a ‘free pass’ to kill that child. The act of killing the child obviously endangers the mother’s life as well.
