Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said on Tuesday that the Senate would vote on the "Green New Deal" introduced by Sen. Edward Markey, D-Mass., and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez last week.
"I've noted with great interest the Green New Deal, and we're going to be voting on that in the Senate to give everybody an opportunity to go on record," McConnell told reporters.
The bill, which is not expected to pass the GOP-dominated upper chamber, could force some Democrats to make a politically awkward calculation.

Ive already been challenged elsewhere, by someone claiming it would pay for itself.
There are some very challenged people out there.
I don’t see a downside on this. If they vote no, it will harm the herd running in the presidential primaries.
It’s a resolution. It does nothing except say “I’m a very stupid politician”
Some senators don't care because they come from freak states. The dems in the house, and specifically Pelosi, should be worried. The more publicity this gets, the worse their chances in 2020.
As I understood it, it was just a resolution. There was no actual policy in it (no authorizations, no appropriations).
However yes it forces Democrats to either vote for it (showing themselves to be as crazy as AOC, upsetting the power, airline, etc. industries), or vote against it (repudiating the Greens).
So you missed my inanity? - sorry for your loss
You didn't notice the multiple times repeal of Obamacare was voted on? The tax reform that was one of the most substantial pieces of legislation passed in a generation? Repeal of the individual mandate? Nuclear option on SCOTUS nominees? Etc.?
Chaos, yes. However, we get to ensure a Final Solution to the Democrat Problem...
The Left does not realize the result of what they are inviting. When all the criminal aliens see drifts of while male Socialists, their shields, piled in the streets, they will self deport.
I agree with you. Mitch is acting like a Democrat the day after Trump won the election.
“Mitch wants names to run campaign ads in upcoming elections.”
our master Presidential troll is already taking these fools to the cleaner on twitter regarding the GND, but I would just LOVE to see him run some very early 2020 campaign TV ads RIGHT NOW that would slam the shite out of the GND by listing what’s actually in it ...
such ads this early would also be totally outside of the box, once again break all the “rules”, and seize all initiative from the Dems and their lapdog media in definining the issues ... such early ads would sew chaos, confusion, panic, and outrage, AND create even MORE exposure for such nutty proposals ...
the GND is even MORE of a winning issue than illegal immigration because it’s simple to understand and so obviously insane that not a single point is rationally defensible ...
“All the dems will all vote no. “
they can’t ALL vote no ... many have co-sponsored this resolution and many have already publicly endorsed this nonsense, including SEVERAL who’ve already announced their Presidential candidacies ...
the Dems are damned if they do and damned if they don’t and especially damned if they split on the vote ...
“More Democrats than he thinks will vote for it.”
hopefully, ALL the Dems will vote for it ... but a split down the middle could be even better as it fractures the party ...
Yep...
He said that if Trump declared a national emergency, he and the Senate would fight it.
There’s his true colors right there.
He thinks a 25% vote of approval would kill it.
That’s silly.
If Trump had gotten only 25% of the vote, would it have killed our desire for his policies?
No, if every Democrat voted for it, it means that all it would take is Colins and one or two others to pass it.
Man folks, we’re talking about some serious downside here.
He may as well pull out the six-shooter and blow the smoke out of the barrel. :^)
Exactly. Playing not to lose. Managing the game. You don’t have to win. Just don’t kill us.
the GOP would not be above PASSING this, would they?
Still a stupid move. Every Democrat can be expected to sign on, and there are more than enough RINO's to push it through to the House.
You see this clearly. Voting on it means it's on the table, meaning it will ever more be a topic of legitimate discussion. Ignoring it completely is the path to take.
