ANALYSIS: Lawmakers refused to authorize funding to pay for the president's big campaign promise. Then he took the stage in El Paso.
President Donald Trump had the perfect script written for the unofficial launch of his re-election campaign in El Paso, Texas.
Back on the trail on Monday night - amid a flurry of Democrats entering the 2020 race and with the backdrop of an iconic border crossing - the president was champing at the bit to the tell the story of an extremist rival party that is hostile to border security and of the wall he would build come hell or high water.
But just before he took the stage, the script flipped.
Back in Washington, Trump learned, Congress had just demolished his wall.
It was a predictable outcome: When Trump announced last month that he was ending a self-inflicted 35-day partial government shutdown, it was clear he was flying the white flag of surrender from an imaginary watchtower on the unbuilt wall. But the final frame of the president's slow-motion capitulation couldn't have come at a worse moment for him.
By all accounts, including his own, he had been looking forward to this moment. There can be little doubt that, after watching Democrats pile into the presidential race over the last couple of months, Trump had been more than ready to let loose. And, as he said Monday night, it was "more fun" to go to a campaign rally than to deliver his State of the Union address last week.
The next part - the reality of Congress outright rejecting his wall yet again - promises to be a lot less fun.

LOL! I likely gave him a wedgie!
I think freee-dame was being sarcastic.
According to Rush this morning there is a cap on detention facilities for invaders.
1.3B > ‘not one dollar’
Pelosi loses, Trump wins.
Does this mean the wall is only 25% immoral?
The MSM is referring to it as 'Trump's wall' just to get under his skin, but you know what? In time, it really will be known as Trump's Wall, and it won't be an insult.
The left wants the American border the world’s free entry. Anything else I wish to say will get me banned.
The deal, even for a token amount of money, is a win for Trump because Democrats had taken the position that even one cent for the wall was RAAAAAAACISM.
How he can divide them and inflame those divisions.
And then declare an emergency.
It’s even better than that. Pelosi and MSM say Pelosi wins/Trump loses. If you just look at Congress funding — they are exactly right. Trump lost the Congressional battle. But does he lose the war?
Meanwhile Trump does an end run around and gets the military to build the rest of the wall. They file law suits but there is this unfortunate fact that Congress did in fact go along with the wall but just funded less than Trump wanted. This seems to be a reasonably good defensive legal position.
The national emergency re human trafficking was declared 12/21/2017. There have been massive strides to secure border, a little here, a stretch there. Some troops here, another few thousand over there. What people demand trump do has already done, all under the radar ;)
McTurtle just kicked the President in the balls. Stood with other RINOs and told him to accept the deal or else.
I fully support POTUS but we need to face the fact the Uniparty and their big donors dont want a wall. So there never will be one.

You may be right. Dems want the illegals’ votes; Repukes wants cheap labor and more consumers. Neither cares what uncontrolled immigration does to our social fabric, our safety and our culture.
I really wish we could tell the GOP to go to hell and start a new party for conservatives. The GOP only wants our money and our votes, not our principles or convictions.
