Houston Police Only Seized Small Amount Of Marijuana In Deadly Raid, No Heroin
Houston Public Media ^ | February 8, 2019 | HPM Digital Team

The Houston Police officers who conducted a deadly raid in an East Houston home on January 28, expecting to find heroin, only seized 18 grams of marijuana and 1.5 grams of an unknown white powder. The Houston Chronicle obtained the results of the search warrant Friday, which also showed officers found two shotguns and two rifles inside the house.

The house had been under investigation for about two weeks after HPD received information about a suspect that was allegedly selling narcotics.

A confidential informant was sent to purchase heroin from the suspect on January 27. The informant told officers the purchase was made and said there was more heroin at the house, according to the affidavit filed to obtain the search warrant. But records later showed that the substance the informant said was heroin was a brown powder, the Chronicle reported.

HPD’s Internal Affairs department and Special Investigations Unit are investigating the operation, and one of the officers involved has been relieved of duty.

Four officers were wounded by gunfire in the raid, which turned into a shootout. The suspects, Dennis Tuttle and Rhogena Nicholas, were killed. The couple’s dog was also killed after it attacked an officer. HPD officials said police opened fire after Tuttle shot the officers when they entered the home and Nicholas was killed when she tried to grab the firearm of one of the officers.

Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo spoke about the investigation, KPRC Channel 2 reported. He said the department “will get to the bottom of this with everything that went well, the good, the bad and the ugly, because that is our moral and legal obligations as a department.”

Acevedo didn’t answer direct questions about the investigation and said he doesn’t want to “piecemeal the discussion.”

HOW TO GET THE COPS TO PAY FOR YOUR HEROIN:

Get caught. Become a snitch.

Go buy some heroin. Tell the cops you know where to buy some heroin. Instead of taking them to where you bought it, take them to a different house. The cops give you the money to buy heroin. You go in the house, and come out telling them you just bought this heroin.

SO, your heroin is free, and your real dealer never gets caught because if you snitched on him, you would probably be dead.

I’m reading the powder substance the informant purchased was not heroin at all....so, how would they have gotten a warrant for a no knock on a heroin house that had no heroin.

Mess up.

It would be ironic - if not downright funny - if it turns out that the cops shot each other.

That’s big of him.

Thank God they got that 18 grams of merrywanna out of circulation! That could have overthrown the govt! Although if they had just waited a week it would have been burned up.

Houston Femocrats ran on making law enforcement more lenient on minority “yutesl, turning out huge Black and Brown support that defeated every Republican judge.

Some of those judges gave the voters what they wanted and dropped cases against minority gang members, releasing them back into their ‘hoods. The howling began immediately from the same people who voted for leniency.

One of these days the pendulum will swing back violently.

Only two rifles and two shotguns in Texas?

And they still haven’t identified the white powder? I believe them. Here’s a hint guys, test for unbleached white bread flour...

Perhaps the surprising thing about the Roger Stone arrest was not that the level of force used was atypical, but that it is typical.

The Drug War continues to kill.

Stories like this have swayed my opinion. I was against legalizing drugs for decades, but if this $#!^ is going to be as commonplace as it seems, let's legalize all of them. The cure is worse than the disease in this case.

I’m very pro-cop but this is why you need the 2nd amendment to be very unrestricted. Cops are paid to get it right. I dislike potheads, but if two potheads lost their lives because of some over-zealous cops, than these cops need to die!

Houston's Police Chief is very anti-2A. Part of his spin on this is that "it wouldn't have happened if the occupants hadn't had guns". According to Acevedo, we should all be disarmed and should bend over and take our no-knock warrants without resistance.

There’s a lot of problems with our law enforcement. Groups like BLM were never intended to help the situation. They were created to cause division and make things worse for everyone. They wanted to drive people to one side or another without looking at the evidence in each case. There’s been plenty of killings by officers that were unjustifiable. The fact that we’ve seen officers who should have never been charged to begin with, along with officers going free when they should have been charged and imprisoned, just show how bad the problem still is. Better psychological exams and training is needed.

I don’t like these kinds of raids without significant evidence showing it’s needed. A lot of innocent people have had there houses raided. A lot of people who aren’t major drug dealers, or whatever, are expecting a raid. It’s hard to wake up to the sounds of a violent break-in and understand what’s happening as your taking actions to defend yourself by going for a gun. It’s not easy to process what’s happening when your getting raided and your trying to comprehend what’s happening as you go for your protection. It’s a dangerous situation that should be used against certain criminals with sufficient evidence. The cop that shot Philando Castile had no business having that job to begin with. The people who easily panic are dangerous, and they should have been ruled out early, along with the weird personalities who have outright murdered someone for enjoyment. I can’t remember the name, but the guy was obviously looking for an excuse to kill a man as he cried and begged for his life.

I never understood why you would go on a raid with a shotgun?

Dear Art never explained why HPD closed off an enormous area surrounding the house until 4AM-ish other than they were looking for other suspects. Apparently they knew immediately they were at the wrong house and well...

He did it the night of the raid more than once. He said Hardy instead of Harding.

This would explain the screeching of the HPD Union President. It is an enormous CF.

Another interesting tid bit..... her brother is retired Sherriff’s Office (not Harris County)

It may never swing back. The offices that worked to require voter ID and pruned the voter rolls of dead or ineligble names are now held by Democrats in Harris County. They also get to control ballot language (vote NO to approve, etc).

From the getgo I’ve suspected friendly fire.

Last year the FBI in Houston shot a kidnapped man who was trying to get rescued.

I’m very pro-cop

I'm not particularly "pro cop" any more; the prevalence of this sort of criminal malfeasance in office is a big part of the reason. The cops are their own worst enemies.

Calling the powder brown is racist.

So they call it white.

We must have an independent investigation of these deaths. Please contact the Texas Attorney Generals Office and urge them to conduct an independent investigation. The Attorney General of Texas is Ken Paxton and the Office of the Attorney General main switchboard number is 512-463-2100.
