Saving money for a rainy day isnt just a good idea in New Jersey its about to become the law.
Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy is poised to sign a rain tax bill passed by the state legislature Jan. 31 and Republicans and lots of taxpayers are howling with rage.
Every time you think theres nothing left to tax, we come up with something else, Assemblyman Hal Wirths (R-Morris-Sussex) exploded during a debate on the measure.
Its just never-ending down here.
The law allows each of the states 565 municipalities to set up its own public stormwater utility. The new bureaucracies will build and manage sewer systems to treat pollutant-filled stormwater runoff.
The infrastructure could cost billions, state authorities say. Under the law, the utilities can levy steep fees on properties with large parking lots, long driveways, or big buildings which create the most runoff.
The state would scoop up 5 percent of the proceeds.
The idea for the new fee goes back to 2010, when President Obamas Environmental Protection Agency ordered states whose rivers and streams flow into the Chesapeake Bay to drastically cut sediment pollution.
Maryland was the first to fall into line, with a 2012 law that charged cleanup costs to property owners and sparked taxpayer fury. Republican Larry Hogans promise to repeal the rain tax helped sweep him into the governors mansion in 2014.

Raindrops keep fallin’ on my head
But that doesn’t mean my eyes will soon be turnin’ red
Crying’s not for me
Cause I’m never gonna stop the rain by complainin’
Because I’m free
Nothing’s worryin’ me
(Except maybe those damn taxes)
The most appropriate song of all:
“As long as I remember
The rain’s been comin’ down
Clouds of mystery pourin’
Confusion on the ground....
Here it comes, another case of stupidity forcing every corporation with a parking lot to leave the state. And remember, stupid RAT reps don’t know they are stupid. Run, run for your corporate lives, run to the border as fast as you can.
What about all the roads and highways? With the new green deal they will order everybody to tear out all concrete and asphalt paving and replace with gravel. You won’t need the paving because there will be no cars or even beasts of burden. You won’t even have wheels. You will carry everything around on your back. When you need a taxi, some poor schmuck will show up and give you a ride on his rickshaw. Ain’t the future great?
Dems in NJ have not thought this through....there remains dust, snow, sleet, wind, lightning...in the end ALL weather is potentially taxable to the Democrat mind.
Below link is to rational management of urban runoff. It should be noted that tax is not mentioned once in the article. It is about how new construction and water management should be done. This article is from Texas A&M one of the few rational universities in Texas but this sadly is rapidly fading. Their science, math, engineering and medical are still first rate. The liberal arts department is crap.
MD ping, if only to note the past ( but could still come back).
A way to include church properties in taxation.
When it FAILS TO GENERATE THE REVENUE the DemocRATS have already spent in advance, THEY WILL COME AFTER YOU!!
A way to include church properties in taxation.
Please relocate to Florida. Texas is full....
Blame the people of NJ for their long-term political failures.
BexarMet on steroids.
Against it all here. Just sayin’ the government control planners are looking for every way to tax everything and everybody, including the churches.
Well, THAT was my point. Churches have parking lots, and although they don’t pay property taxes, that rain tax will be one way to force them to pay a tax.
