Tracking the rope? OK.I've watched enough of the Crime Channel (which is tied with the Nat Geo Channel for my favorite channel) to know that cops have many ways to track things like rope.Let's say they track it to Walmart or Home Depot.They just go to the company headquarters and track purchases of it within 50 miles of Chicago.Then they go to the security camera archives and...BINGO...they see him walking out having just made such a purchase.

Actually, I think they are just looking to see if He had purchased identical rope in the recent past, which if true, would cast even more doubt on his story. Yet, that piece of rope could have come from a coil that had been sitting in his, or a friends, back room for years.
