Roberts joins Supreme Court's liberal wing in blocking Louisiana abortion law
Fox News ^ | February 7, 2019

Chief Justice John Roberts joined the Supreme Court's liberal wing on Thursday in temporarily blocking a Louisiana law that would have placed restrictions on abortion clinics, in the high court's first major ruling on abortion since the confirmation of Associate Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

The ruling comes as Roberts, who was appointed by President George W. Bush, has increasingly and deliberately sought to present the federal judiciary as nonpartisan, amid a flurry of attacks from progressive groups arguing that the Supreme Court's new conservative majority imperils the country. Last year, in a highly unusual statement, Roberts rebuked President Trump for criticizing partisanship in the federal judiciary.

The one that got struck down?

He obviously knew which way that vote was going. He merely played dissenter, for the sake of façade.

Bush wasn’t fooled, Roberts is exactly what he wanted.

Harriet Miers was W’s FIRST PICK.
When he announced Miers the uprising against her made him pick someone who could slide in with no real resistance. Johns Roberts.

Double entendres were intentional, I take it.

Roberts was picked to replace Rhenquist, and he was confirmed.

Miers was picked to replace O’Connor, and she withdrew here nomination after appropriate heat was brought to bear. Bush nominated Alito to take that opening, and he was confirmed.

Roberts loves the unique position he’s in now as both Chief Justice and swing vote. Hopefully, Trump will soon replace a liberal and thereby make Kavanaugh the swing vote.

Justice Souter from here in NH was the same way. Supposedly a conservative, but became a liberal after moving to DC.
Did somebody dig up dirt on him too? We may never know.

What we do know is that the democrats play dirty. They always have and they always will. Trump also knows how to play dirty and beat them at their own game. THAT is why they HATE HIM.

Well, he hasn’t been part of the “liberal wing”. He has been slightly to the right of the center if we apply political terminology to judicial matters. Without Anthony Kennedy he is likely to become a new “swing vote.”

It is amazing to me how much the courts will stretch the reach of the law for just about any business in America. Try to run a restaurant if you want an idea of just how intrusive they can be. However, if you're running an infanticide mill, it is apparent that any regulation at all is just simply beyond the pale for this same crowd that attempts to regulate whether or not you get a straw with your drink.

How did Ginsburg vote if she’s not actually present and voting at the Supreme Court?

There was a funny Twitter pic that showed Ginsburg haunting the Library of Congress. It was a photoshop from the "Ghostbusters" movie.

Shortly after Roberts’ appointment to the court I heard him speak at a university I lived near at the time.

He was learned, witty, polished, humorous confident, CONSERVATIVE, conservative and proud of it.

He spoke just for a short while, then took questions for at least an hour. I’d never heard a better presentation. I remember thinking at the time: This is what the Founding Fathers must have sounded like.

Whatever has come over him must be damned good, from the Deep State point of view...and damned bad for him and us.

UGH, he was supposed to be a Thomas/Scalia and now he’s a Kennedy.

Not really, at the time of his nomination it was known that he was no originalist. He was said to be a “judicial minimalist”, which was supposed to mean that he liked narrow decisions, but it said nothing about his fidelity to the Constitution. The Bush Administration played a little trick on conservatives. They used a “judicial minimalist” argument to show that he wasn’t a judicial activist.

I read a post on another internet forum in which an apparently left-leaning person was relieved when he learned that John Roberts was nominated.

He was the so-called “swing vote” with Kennedy still in there. The falsely-derived imposition of the Zerocare mandate as a “tax” is not on any other justice.

RINOs always sway rightward when politically expedient. We saw Mitch McConnell doing it during Obama’s lame-duck term in the refusal to confirm Merrick Garland, for one example.
