This morning, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez released an overview of her Green New Deal which threatens "a massive transformation of our society."
Below are the details of the proposal:
Upgrade or replace every building in US for state-of-the-art energy efficiency.
The Green New Deal is a 10-year plan to mobilize every aspect of American society at a scale not seen since World War 2 to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions.
Its unclear if we will be able to decommission every nuclear plant within 10 years, but the plan is to transition off of nuclear and all fossil fuels as soon as possible.
Build out highspeed rail at a scale where air travel stops becoming necessary.
We believe the right way to capture carbon is to plant trees and restore our natural ecosystems. CCUS technology to date has not proven effective.
Ensure that all GND jobs are union jobs that pay prevailing wages and hire local.
Were not ruling a carbon tax out, but a carbon tax would be a tiny part of a Green New Deal.
Cap and trade may be a tiny part of the larger Green New Deal plan.
No estimate of the total cost of implementing the Green New deal is offered by Ocasio-Cortez.
However, as Ocasio-Cortez admits, even if every billionaire and company came together and were willing to pour all the resources at their disposal into this investment, the aggregate value of the investments they could make would not be sufficient.
She does provide one estimate that the cost to repair and upgrade infrastructure U.S. infrastructure alone will cost $4.6 trillion at minimum.
Ocasio-Cortez doesnt provide any insight into how the trillions of dollars in spending will be paid for other than claiming, The Federal Reserve can extend credit to power these projects and investments and new public banks can be created to extend credit. But as Ocasio-Cortez says, the question isnt how will we pay for it, but what will we do with our new shared prosperity.

These are not shocking, they are stupid. Call a spade, a spade, please.

Thwy purposely left the unicorn farm off the list.
They don’t want to scare people.
Why not a underwater train?.
I want a under water train!
I want a under water train!
I’m holding my breath until I get a
underwater train!
“...all union labor which really complicates things - might take a billion years.”
I had a long-term contract at a Federal site (all union) and I was there off and on a lot. One of the restrooms in a worker’s area had a sink in a cardboard box one time. The next time I was out there a few weeks later the box was opened. A few weeks later the box was in the corner and the sink with parts was laying near the broken sink.
I mentioned to my Federal client (non-union) “Hey - I’m no plumber, but I bet you $50 I could install that sink by the end of the day!” He just shook his head in disgust.
He said he was at one job meeting, and the Foreman was pleading with his guys (can’t yell - that would be harassment) “Please you guys. Give me four solid hours of work every day (10-hour days, Fridays off) and we can get back on schedule within a month. Please!!!”
...and how do you build that kind of infrastructure with today's environmental regulations? You wouldn't be able to break ground without years of dealing with the Save the Snails crowd and spending millions on "studies."

I’d like to see AOC’s junior high transcripts.
Every building to be replaced? I guess historical buildings will be replaced, so we will never have any museums. I guess AO-C wants to put tourism out of business. Maxine and AO-C would be the best ads for 2020.
I’m sorry, but this woman is stupid on steroids.

(AKA: Kotex-Cortex)
Yes .... and we could fly the airplanes into the buildings .... getting rid of both of them at the same time !
Kind of like Obama except he read them off the teleprompter
