These aren't insults. This is the reality I faced for years as a senior manager in a STEM field. I knew this country was facing a disaster when I looked at those three hypothetical candidates above and found myself asking a third question that was about as pathetic as it gets:

If I’m an employer I don’t want to train you to do every step of your job. You paid a fortune for a college degree ... didn’t you learn anything?
Thats a red herring. Tons of places fire Americans and hire foreign. Disney is a prominent example. Brought in a bunch of foreigners, made the Americans TRAIN their replacements in order to get any severance, then fired them when the foreigner was trained.
It isn’t that we don’t HAVE the skilled engineers, it is that the can hire foreigners cheaper.
No worries. The main invasion will be at Calais.
Bingo. Don’t forget the insurance issue. A big part the problem is average age of employee when paying for health benefits. Plenty of available highly skilled older IT workers, but they push up the health care costs. There also the wrong headed view that they/we are less capable.
