President Trump needs to take this to the courts, as the Legislative Branch is now trying to usurp some of the powers of the Executive Branch. The Executive Branch is the Command In Chief, period.

Horse Soldiers: The Extraordinary Story of a Band of US Soldiers Who Rode to Victory in Afghanistan Paperback – May 11, 2010

4.0 out of 5 starsGood war story, with a deeper lesson for war.
January 15, 2018
Format: Kindle EditionVerified Purchase

In telling the story of the initial mission into Afghanistan after 9/11, of small Special Forces teams supporting native Afghan forces, the author shows a strategy that worked. Men who lived and fought with the Northern Alliance and respected their customs had more impact than a much larger conventional force would have. An excellent read about brave American and Afghan soldiers and a meeting of very different cultures.

The book ends with a comment that we should never send Soilders to try and change the country...at most support native forces ...in this manner

Can we ever send our troops home, Mitch? Or is the Swamp plan to just stay there forever, at a cost of billions and counting?

We don’t need a robot party like the Dems. As was noted by a few commentators of Fox last night, healthy debate is a good thing and it still lives in the GOP unlike the lockstep insanity in the CPUSA.

As to the topic, I agree with POTUS in that we can’t afford to police the world. However, if we don’t want any more 9-11’s, we have to maintain some intel capability/forward presence so we can be prepared and respond appropriately, in our own safety and national interests. I think many in the senate are aware of this concern, as are the military leaders who will have to engage the future threats.

Some personalities, POTUS included, are better at communicating this than others. The MSM will take every opportunity to make healthy debate something to criticize the president with. Some comments by some FReepers here only serve to help this MSM goal.

I think the message from Trump is that he’s not hardheaded on Syria/Afghanistan but money and blood spent there had better be well justified.

Agreed.

If this vote and legislation is what it is touted, this becomes another significant Constitutional “division of powers” crises.

While Congress can sign off on budgets, and has certain budgetary related oversight, short of a congressional “Declaration of War”, it cannot lawfully direct the DoD to contradict an Chief Commanding Officers executive authority, the authority of which is Constitutionally established.

Furthermore, is Congress now going to micro-manage the DoD and our service members across the globe? This would be certain suicide for our armed forces around the world.

Just think, now we can have a socialist Congress, which is full of the likes of “Occasional Cortex” and other anti-American communist illiterates, giving orders to our DoD to disobey an elected Commander in Chief!

Nice!

Actually, this would be formally, national suicide!

Yes, he is a liar and backstabber. But just remember all the rest of the pathetic GOP senators who keep putting him in charge. I include my two senators, Barrasso and Enzi from Wyoming. Neither of them deserve to represent anyone. They are just two GOPes. But Wyoming people, just like the rest of the country are stupid and keep putting them back in.
