A Democratic Connecticut state legislator introduced a bill on Monday that would raise the tax on ammunition in the state by 50 percent, prompting an immediate condemnation by the National Rifle Association (NRA) and concerns from legal observers that the legislation would be unconstitutional.
In a video uploaded to Twitter, Rep. Jillian Gilchrest, a freshman legislator from Hartford, said that a companion bill was being introduced in the state Senate by fellow freshman Democrat Will Haskell. (Haskell, at age 22, became Connecticut's youngest-ever elected legislator last year.)
"Currently, ammunition is taxed at the same rate as other products, but we want to increase it by 50 percent, because we see it as a prevention measure," Gilchrest says in the video. "For example, if someone were to buy a 50 cartridge box of ammunition, which goes for about $10, it would increase the price to $15."
Gilchrest goes on to explain that military and law enforcement members would be exempted from the tax, although those exemptions do not appear in an initial draft of the bill posted to the Connecticut state legislature's website.
"We see this as a public health measure, similar to what we've done in the state of Connecticut with increasing the tax on cigarettes," Gilchrest said. "When we increase that tax, we've seen a reduction in use."

I despise most of the American people now. I at first shocked myself to “get in touch with my true feelings” as the old Bob Newhart character used to say as I said that out loud.
I think it was 2 FReepers scolded me in November, 2018 and said “haven’t you every heard of the Dem vote harvesting” and “a lot of votes were fraudulent and illegals counted.”
That settled me down a tiny bit. True.

Trying to “impeach” and “remove” our duly elected president on the phony grounds that they hate him and disagree with his politics! Illegal.
Promoting racial division and civil unrest based on race.
And declaring males are guilty unless proven innocent afer slander to Kavanaugh, an innocent man, for the “crime” of disagreeing with the leftists.
And worst of all, pushing to unheard depths of degradation the pro-abortion faction even including infanticide to living babies not only in the womb but now also after they are born!

And in the mean time, taxes on cigarette are getting to the point where organized crime is getting involved in smuggling. Cigarette wars in the streets.

Define “deadliest bullet”. All bullets are deadly. And your description of various types of bullets merely shows your total ignorance about bullets. There is no such thing as an “exploding bullet” in any firearm smaller than artillery or tank rounds. And full-metal-jacket bullets probably do the least bodily damage of any bullet type.

It would be interesting to calculate the number of rounds purchased each year vs. the number fired by criminals during crimes. It would show who they really want to punish with these laws.

Correct...Cost of ammo isn’t going to stop a maniacal killer or terrorist but it’ll make it inconvenient for the vast majority of shooters and of course it adds to the states coffers.
Hell, even Cook co, IL wold be a bargain compared to the Nutbag state...only a 5 cent per round tax.
A criminal only needs one loaded magazine. At most this tax adds pennies to the cost of each criminal shooting. This is a total BS ruse to end run the 2nd amendment.
