US Ready to Build Portion of Texas Border Wall

The U.S. government is preparing to begin construction of more border walls and fencing in South Texas' Rio Grande Valley, likely on federally owned land set aside as wildlife refuge property.

Heavy construction equipment was expected to arrive starting Monday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said. A photo posted by the nonprofit National Butterfly Center shows an excavator parked next to its property.

Congress last March approved more than $600 million for 33 miles (53 kilometers) of new barriers in the Rio Grande Valley. While President Donald Trump and top Democrats remain in a standoff over Trump's demand for $5.7 billion in border wall funding, U.S. Customs and Border Protection has pushed ahead with building what's already funded.

That construction was often described as fencing, and the government funding bill that included construction was supported by some Democrats in the House and Senate. CBP refers to what it plans to build as a "border wall system."

According to designs it released in September , CBP intends to build 25 miles (40 kilometers) of concrete walls to the height of the existing flood-control levee in Hidalgo County next to the Rio Grande, the river that forms the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas. On top of the concrete walls, CBP will install 18-foot (5.5-meter) steel posts and clear a 150-foot (45-meter) enforcement zone in front.

The President needs to make to make it well known during his SOTU speech that this is happening. Then all of America can watch as Pelosi chews her own face off.

Well, partial wall today beats a full wall promised sometime in the future.

Eighteen feet is not that tall. What about ladders? And, having been shown to be ridiculous about “What about the CHILDREN?” and other protests they’ve raised which didn’t work too well, now it’s the BUTTERFLIES. The dummocraps never stop trying to grasp at straws as to why the wall should not be built. Their hatred of America and prosperity for its citizens is popping out at every seam as their carefully disguised party line reasons are falling apart.

It is not like the Government didn’t know there might be resistance to the exercise of eminent domain.

If they were not confident of the ability to go ahead with construction, it would have been malpractice to have issued the Notice to Proceed to the contractors. This is just more Leftist wishful thinking.

The mountain of supplies and equipment is starting to arrive on station. The barrier there will be the most massive of all (underground) - FEMA Hurricane-Certified levee wall, with the bollards on top. A lot more concrete than elsewhere.

"Eighteen feet is not that tall."

Eighteen foot bollards will be on top of the levee wall. 150 south of the wall will be cleared of vegetation, and alarmed to detect human foot traffic.

18 Feet is pretty tall if you are standing on top looking to jump down the other side.

Should not be a problem if you remembered to pack that climbing Gear you bought at REI before you left Honduras! If not, well...just hope your coyote does not leave you on the far side of the fence to die of a couple of broken femurs!

“we have a national butterfly center?”

It is a privately-owned operation, that took a grandiose name for itself. It has no Government mandate. Ten years ago it was an onion farm.

The Rio Grande Valley is at the crossroads of some different environments where the ranges of different species overlap, so there are many types of butterflies around there. Still will be after the barrier goes in.

There was already a flood control levee running through it with cleared shoulders. They will only have to clear about 50 or 100 feet of vegetation (to meet the 150 foot standard), and the bollards will be up on what is now the levee.

All the butterfly fruitcakes had to do was ask for a gate, to be open during the day - but the owner is activist liberal, who wants to stick it to the man. Lets see if she can chant “we shall overcome” and stop heavy construction equipment operating on a tight schedule for their bonus.

“A little less conversation, a little more action, please”

You won’t have long to wait - ground breaking is expected mid-month, and the heavy equipment has started arriving already.

These bollard barriers will be built on a truly massive concrete foundation - FEMA hurricane-certified flood levees. This is going to be some heavy construction - well over a million dollars for every 100 yards.

Yep - Trump doesn’t let funds for the wall sit-—when he finally gets funding 9by any available means) he won’t lollygag and not do anything like his predecessors...
Hope some of the concern trolls see this and think about it...

MAGA!!! Keep FR strong and funded....
