Nearly 4,000 additional U.S. troops will be deployed to the southern border to assist Customs and Border Protection, the Pentagon announced Sunday.
CNN reported that 3,750 troops will head to the border for 90 days to aid in placing razor wire along the border, as well as with mobile surveillance operations. The deployment will bring the number of active-duty forces in the area to roughly 4,350.
Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan said last week that the department would send "several thousand" additional troops to the border, but declined to be more specific.
The Hill has reached out to the Pentagon for comment.

A10’s welcome to dig trench.
If they aren’t going with a full combat load of ammo, why bother?
To stop or help process? Thats the question. I hope the former and Trump has certainly been saying the right things lately. I love how he revealed Ryan lied to his face as we all thought he did.
I still think that Cholla Cactus would be as effective and take less maintenance than concertina wire.
Install some “Dragon Teeth” anti-vehicle barriers and a bed of cactus 30 or 40 yards deep and you’ve created a very effective barrier
Operation Jump Start veteran here. Love hearing troops going to the border. We did alot of good down there with Task force Razorback at Deming area.
That’s great...Karma. :^)
and zero live rounds.
Great tweet !!!
Sounds like a basic rotation, since the bottom line number is still about the same.
How many tanks and artillery?
I would also like to see some deep trenches. The deep trenches would require tunnel diggers to go deeper. A wall is good, but I think we need some defense in depth. You would also think that with a decent road system behind the defenses you could have all sorts of robotic vehicles as scouts and first responders that could deploy non lethal weapons. Drones flying in drugs could be taken out by existing anti missile defense systems. A wall/defensive system can be very high tech.
The big thing that a wall does is that it makes the cost of human and drug trafficking more expensive and less efficient. If the traffickers have to spend time and money building elaborate tunnels and buying drones to fly over drugs, they will go out of business. This all drives up consumer costs and reduces demand.
Thank you. I was a Minuteman and did my small part.
Heaven has a wall, a gate and a strict immigration policy. Hell has open borders.
sneaky but nice idea!
That statement is incorrect.
Wasn’t that Bush’s thing?
