COLUMBIA, S.C. - S.C. senators have revived a proposal to bring back the electric chair for the states death row executions, as well as add firing squads as an execution option.
The proposal passed the state Senate by a 26-13 vote Wednesday, split mostly along party lines. It now heads to the S.C. House, where a similar proposal died last year.
Backed by Senate Republicans, the bill is an attempt to address the S.C. Corrections Departments inability to carry out executions because it does not have the chemicals needed for lethal injections.
Drug companies wont sell the state the chemicals, fearing legal challenges and bad publicity, said state Sen. Greg Hembree, R-Horry, a supporter of the electrocution proposal.

...now the rats will be screaming cruelty, while killing live infants and procurement of body parts.
I would add hanging. And for real bad criminals The Death Of A Thousand Cuts
Why not just OD them on morphine? This is the most contrived “crisis” ever invented.
Electric chair likely to fail a SCOTUS challenge under the 8th Amendment, and it probably should.
SC should hang them instead.
What about gas?
“...the bill is an attempt to address the S.C. Corrections Departments inability to carry out executions because it does not have the chemicals needed for lethal injections.”
Did we suddenly run out of Opioids? Way too many of my fellow Veterans have managed to kill themselves that way. :(
Agreed. Instead of a gas chamber why not a slow hypoxia chamber? Pump the air out little by little. No drugs, no fake ‘reactions,’ no potential errors by personnel. Nobody survives a near vacuum.
Despite the best efforts of the ACLU and NAACP, Utah made the firing squad work. Re: Gary Gilmore. (Who was white.)

As many have suggested, use pure nitrogen asphyxiation. The gas chamber could be modified very slightly. Just strap the condemned in, turn on the nitrogen, and it’s a soft and painless falling asleep into eternity. Plus, nitrogen is a base element, beyond outlawing by libs.
“Why not just OD them on morphine?”
Too Humane! How about Drano?
Why quibble about the method?
The really important question in these death row discussions is “why does it take so long to execute these people?”
Execution no longer serves as a deterrent. Perhaps a quicker execution cycle would?
This adds another check in the positive column if this passes. d;^)
States are all over the place on issues lawmaking. WY just banned the death penalty.
Sounds like a good venue for the Clintion’s to be tried.
Better safe than sorry. Always have a backup, backup, backup. Jes sayin.
What’s wrong with hanging, you can always re-use the rope.
Let’s think about the taxpayers, here. Bullets and electricity cost money.
And, using Hemp would probably appeal to leftist types.
Then they'd call more people "literally Hitler." Using gas has astronomically horrendous optics.
Nitrogen asphyxiation is easy cheap and not cruel. You just go to sleep. The body does not sense that anything is wrong.
