The Catholic Diocese of Austin and others across Texas has released a list of clergy that it believes could have sexually abused children. The church hopes this action will help to rebuild trust. 22 priests are named, and all one but are dead, retired or removed from the ministry. Click here to see the assignment information for the accused. The inclusion of a name on this list does not establish that the allegation was substantiated or proven to the Diocese of Austin, a court, or other authority; and does not establish that sexual abuse under the Texas Penal Code actually occurred. Click here to read the definition of a credible allegation and other terms, as well as more information about how this information was compiled.

All but one is dead. Isn't that convenient.
53 priests in San Antonio alone!
And does anyone think that other priests didn’t know what was going on?
I generally try to abstain from criticizing the Catholic Church, but come on!
These people are sick demented animals. Who would belong to such a perverse ungodly “church”?
“Dead, retired or removed from the ministry”.
I’ll assume your misquote was unintentional.
All but 1 are dead, retired, or not in priestly ministry. In other words, only 1 is a priest today. Most of the abuse happened in the 60’s to 80’s, that has been documented, most Dioceses have put in stronger physiological testing to prevent dysfunctional people from getting in seminary. I don’t have the John Jay study in front of me, but this has been cleaned up somewhat. Now, what was known and hidden 40-60 years ago is coming to light.
The Church isnt about the priest, its about Jesus. Thats why we dont leave. We arent there to worship a man preaching at the pulpit, but the God-man that sacrificed himself for us and rose again that we may live. No matter how many of these wolves in sheeps clothing infiltrate the ranks, we have Jesus promise that the gates of Hell shall not prevail.
And people ask when I say I believe in Christ’s teachings, why I don’t subscribe to organized christian religion. Here’s another example why I don’t. Plus, I’m a deist at best.
The church may not be about the priest, but the priest is sure interested in the churchs kids.
As someone said above, these are mostly old cases that have come to light. On the Dallas list, over half are already dead and gone. There are two recent ones that have been accused ... one might actually be serious. Hes awaiting his trial, so there must be something there.
And given the amount of priests in the world (over 400,000) the amount of priests accused of these acts is less than on average of other walks of life ... teachers, relatives, etc. Im not making excuses, but simply pointing this out to put it into perspective. ANY priest credibly accused should be dealt with swiftly and harshly, IMO.
Couple of things
1. It is only minors as opposed to every one a priest or deacon not honoring his vows.
2. There should be a distinction between pre and post pubescent. OTOH if you saw the number of young men youd see its actually about homosexuality. The altar at which the liberals worship and we cant have that. But still have a fair trial and with a guilty verdict a 0.20 sentence.
3. The reason uncle teddy skated so long is because his victims were of age.
4. Yes there was one who was a surprise to me. I would have not been surprised if he pirouetted out of a closet. But a minor? Hes been removed and presumably turned over to the authorities.
5. Heterosexual marriage wont fix this.
Ive long thought that if the liberal/socialists could bring the RCC down from inside and out then the rest of the less organized Christian churches would be a much easier target.
Wasn’t Bill in attendance at the time?
As someone said above, these are mostly old cases that have come to light
Of corse. It takes time for a child to grow through all the stages of maturity into adulthood.
Time to process the sexual abuse, hideous betrayal, and conflicting emotions mixed with failed religion.
Most never tell what happened. Most that do wait until they come to grips with it as adults.
So obviously, cases coming to light are old cases.
So will the ones next year, and the year after, and the year after... etc.
Since one out of two or one out of three Catholic priests are gay, it is very likely this will continue for decades worldwide.
It is the single largest gay and sex crisis in an organized religion Ive ever read about. It is so very sad for the children.
Rome is to blame. It knew at every level, protected the abusers, shuffled them to fresh victims, and all the while have known gayness was rampant in the Vatican. It did this over - at least - the past 5 popes.
It is hideous and abhorrent.
I suppose you have some sort of proof of this claim?
This is horrible that the Catholic Church kept this a secret.
But Muslims are given a pass?
Obama’s legacy
Yes ... it is.
I dont think Id refer to it as proof, since only the gay catholic priests themselves know, and have incentive to keep it quiet.
However I did post links to information on a thread last week.
Here is a quote, which you could google if you want to learn more.
One of their trusted sources told them, for example, that the Vaticans personnel is about 50% homosexual. Also discussing the recent article written by Andrew Sullivan The Gay Church the journalists of Church Militant agree with the substantive research that, among parish priests, there can be found to be as many as 40-60% who are homosexual.
You can assume 1/3 to 1/2 of the priests at your parish are gay. Ask, if you care - and I assume any Christian would.
Rome has become the gayest religion on earth, by numbers.
A book written by a gay sociologist? Really?
A book written by a gay sociologist? Really?
Yes. Subject matter expert with a keen interest in the topic... who quotes others, including AIDS research concerning the number of Catholic priests dying of AIDS - in far, far greater numbers than the population of the US public.
The notion that many Catholic priests are quietly gay is not new. In the 2000 book “The Changing Face of the Priesthood,” Rev. Donald B. Cozzens suggested that the priesthood was increasingly becoming a gay profession. Cozzens estimated that as much as 58 percent of priests were gay, and that percentages were even higher for younger priests. His numbers matched previous estimates by sociologists who put the numbers of gay priests between 10 and 60 percent.
Father Gary Meier, a gay, St. Louis-based Catholic clergymen, says there’s a wide range of statistics out there on gay priests, but jokes that in his experience, “30 percent are gay, 30 percent are straight, and 30 percent are in denial.”
Meier, who wrote a coming-out book called “Hidden Voices, Reflections of a Gay Catholic Priest,” says he is cautiously cheering Francis’s comments.
Is your priest gay?
Flip a coin.
Odds are 50/50.
To believe it is a small number, you must be in denial of all the evidence, from the Vatican down.
Or maybe someone with an agenda.
All the sources Ive seen are 20% and up. Im betting; based on the level of horrid abuse and the reports from priests it is upwards of 40%.
Heck, there are gay sex and drug parties at the Vatican and popes know and allow it.
The first pope was married. Why did they stop?
The healing of the mother of Peter’s wife is one of the miracles of Jesus in the Gospels, reported in Matthew 8:1415, Mark 1:2931, and Luke 4:3841. ... Peter’s mother-in-law was sick with a great fever before Jesus came into the house and was made aware of the sickness.
