The ISIS Caliphate is just about wrapped up - down to the last square mile, and about the last week.

Maybe they will catch Baghdadi or some of the other big fish, but they probably left their true believers to die for them, per SOP.

The President should be able to announce their eradication during the State of the Union on Tuesday. The next day the Foreign Ministers will meet on the way ahead, as the remnants of ISIS continue as a terrorist organization, or just a brand.

I agree we don’t need to police the globe, but radical Islam is an infestation, and like termites or ants, you have to keep watch for them even once they are beaten back for the season. It will be interesting to see how the US keeps its coalition effectively engaged without us having to bear all the load.

Defeat ISIS?

Only if Islam is defeated.

The western world kept the islamic hordes in check for hundreds of years, but are unwilling to do what needs to be done anymore, imo.

“discussions on the impending territorial defeat of ISIS in Iraq and Syria... Ministers will discuss the next phase of the campaign in Iraq and Syria, which will focus on protecting against a resurgence of ISIS through stabilization and security assistance.”

Trump announces we are pulling out. Within a month, the deep state hosts a meeting to discuss “protecting against a resurgence of ISIS through stabilization and security assistance.

“Stabilization and security assistance” = Removing Assad, and permanently basing US forces there.

The government and intel establishment has over-ruled the President. So much for voting.

“The ISIS Caliphate is just about wrapped up - down to the last square mile, and about the last week.”

If you call an agreement that lets them get on a bus with families and leave “wrapping up ISIS”. Does anyone seriously think they will straighten up and open falafel stands? This could and should have been like the iron ring around Berlin, and ended with thousands of them in open air pens, being sorted through for war crimes trials.

This “win” will simply have them move to Europe and London, likely on our dime, and start getting full benefits so they can sit around and decide what truck rental agency they want to use for sidewalk attacks.

Black is ISIS, yellow for Kurds, Pink for Assad regime loyalists. NE outskirts of al Bukamal.

“if you call an agreement that lets them get on a bus with families and leave “wrapping up ISIS””

When we discussed that a few days back, I was not sure if they were being allowed to evacuate in a negotiated withdrawal (as has been common over the last few years in Syria), or if they were surrendering into custody. Turns out that the men were taken into custody, women and children allowed passage.

There have also been some twitter rumors that a US SpecOps Team has gone into the area, after High Value Targets - possibly Abu Bakr al Baghdadi. There is some chance of capturing him or finding his body before the SOTU, but he probably ran.

Nonetheless, thousands of ISIS gunmen have filtered out - perhaps even ten or twenty thousand. Those are mostly Iraqi or Syrian Arab tribesmen from the Sunni heartland of ISIS along the Euphrates River and in the deserts around the border, like al Anbar. They can go home and their relatives will lie about where they had been to cover for them. Tribal influence will keep most out of jail. The foreign ISIS fighters are dying at much higher rates on the battlefield.

What we will be seeing later this week or next, is the end of ISIS ruling territory in Syria or Iraq - they will have to hide from the Government authorities from here on out - less power and money, more risk. But the mosques in Fallujah will be still be preaching the same underlying Wahabbi philosophy, and many of the former ISIS/al Queda in Iraq members will harbor fond memories of the good old days, like former Nazis did.

Members in the Middle East are Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates -- but not Israel. And of course, not Iran or Yemen.
