Senate panel postpones William Barr’s confirmation vote amid Democrats’ concerns

A planned Senate Judiciary Committee vote on William P. Barr’s nomination to serve as attorney general has been delayed for a week, as Democrats continue to raise concerns about whether he will allow special counsel Robert S. Mueller III to finish his probe and publicize the results unimpeded.

The delay, which is customary for high-profile nominations, is not expected to impede Barr’s eventual chances of being confirmed by the full Senate. But it is the latest reflection of the deep partisan tension surrounding Barr’s nomination, most of which centers on Democrats’ desire to protect Mueller’s probe from being unduly constrained.

The committee postponed its vote on Barr as one of 46 nominations the panel was scheduled to vote on Tuesday but decided to delay until its next meeting.

Barr doesn’t need any Democratic support to be confirmed. Under rules changes that the Democratic-led Senate adopted in 2013, only a simple majority of senators’ votes are needed to confirm a Cabinet nominee.

Riiight...and when Dingy Harry ran the roost, he always postponed Obama staff confirmations for GOP objections. Sure!

Do they think the report will land on Whitaker’s desk this week? I found it strange that Whit said the report would be coming out soon. Mere speculation.....

Here we go again. Are they going to request his high school calendars? Did he ever throw ice at any one? The Dems must be searching furiously to find some sexual assault accusation to bring against him. Has Diane Feinswine received any letters from baby-talking tarts?

Liars! It wouldn’t be “customary” if it was an Obama appointment held up.

Actually I found it more interesting that Whtiker had no real idea about when it would come. He was obviously just making a guess meaning he had no clue. I could only conclude he is as detached as Magoo was.

Is this delay to allow Frankenfeinstein sufficient time to find a grenade to roll under the tent?

I’m with the RATS. Derail this nomination. Please. Almost anyone would be better than some deep state bureaucrat who’s Mueller’s best friend.

From what I read about Barr maybe it is better if he gets delayed....for quite awhile.

“Do they think the report will land on Whitaker’s desk this week? “

More than likely. They want to keep Barr out of the loop even though we all know he’s supportive of the mueller coup. They have Whitaker under their thumb and everything is lined up to drop the impeachment report.

That was my first thought as well. I thought they disliked Whitaker even more than Barr though - since Barr served previously under one of the Bushs.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Trump allowed Whitaker to deliver the report and thereby leave Barr with clean hands all together when he assumes the role....unless the whole Barr thing is a complete head-fake and there is someone else in the wings he has in mind. Wouldn’t surprise me if that is the case at this point.

Reading between the lines, does this mean to infer that within this weeks delay to vote Mueller will release his report?
