Super Bowl Sunday will feature an unexpected confluence of three powers rife with conflict: mainstream media, the NFL and President Donald Trump.
CNN reports that Trump will sit down for an interview with CBS’ Margaret Brennan on Friday that will air during the network’s pregame coverage of the Super Bowl.
While mainstream media and the NFL have routinely maintained a symbiotic relationship, Trump’s disdain for both is well-documented.
As Trump has routinely used media attention around newsworthy moments to make his case for a border wall, it makes sense that he’s taking advantage of a Super Bowl audience as he seeks to promote his message.
How much CBS and Brennan challenge Trump on his message is yet to be seen. Whether he uses the platform to launch another attack on the NFL will also be of note

I personally don’t see a single drawback. If she talks about kneeling, he can say that since he spoke on it, it has stopped. She can ask about the shut-down, he has answered for that many times before and has it wired. She can ask about the wall, he can respond on one of the biggest stages he will have in the near-term.

I think Trump will do just fine.
The network wants ratings. I don’t think it will try to pull anything with this interview, especially since it’s being aired before the game.

She will throw him softballs because the advertisers will demand it. If she goes after him, people will tune out the game meaning advertisers will have spent millions of dollars for a smaller audience.

Most conservatives probably don’t even know what channel CBS is on so this is a way to boost game ratings. And conservatives get to see their POTUS.
