President Donald Trump and his supporters hate socialism, that much we know. Whether it’s his friend Jair Bolsonaro, the newly inaugurated and scarily fascistic Brazilian president, declaring his nation’s “liberation from socialism,” or just his son Don Jr. making puerile tweets about taking away half of his daughter’s Halloween candy and offensive Instagram posts warning that freshman Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a rising democratic-socialist star, will usher in an age of dog-eating, Team Trump leaves no doubt about its hostility.
The president himself frequently denounces socialism, and last fall, the White House Council of Economic Advisers issued a scathing report, report, “The Opportunity Costs of Socialism.” None of this is worth taking seriously at an intellectual level; the 70-page report is full of inane attempts to link U.S. Sens. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts to such historical figures as Fidel Castro and Mao Zedong. It insinuates that somehow “Medicare-for-all” will repeat the “tens of millions of deaths by starvation” in Stalinist Russia. Even as scare tactics, this is a joke.

They cannot show us “Socialism that works” unless they twist their definitions into pretzels showing that Socialism is really mostly capitalism.

This guy is a member of DSA, but every historical reference to “socialism in New Jersey” is to those who espoused Marxism-Leninism, Trotskyism. the Socialist Workers Party — all communist movements. That’s very telling.

I was going to say that it's not all about Trump, but for Whitney, and for other socialists, it really may all be about Trump.
That doesn't say much for the longevity of their movement, though.

Socialism is booming in NJ, but the people are leaving. Just like Connecticut. That place is a ghost town.
Anyone with any sense denounces socialism.
Have you seen what happened to Venezuela?
The promises of socialism always include goodies that no one will have to pay for. That’s what would be intellectually laughable if it hadn’t cost 120 to 150 million lives in the last century. And notice that these rats always say that the alternative is fascism. Freedom gets no mention in their rhetoric.

Karl Marx HATED the middle class.
He HATED them.
Marx wanted them middle class DEAD.
He wanted their blood FLOWING in the streets.
You can NOT use Marx’s ideas to help the middle class.

BTW - Benito Mussolini was a Socialist.
His Fascist party was just another version of Socialism.
New Jersey actually had voluntaristic communal experiments - the Fourierist Phalanx at Red Bank, the Vineland Community, Upton Sinclair’s Helicon Hall - but nowadays it’s all about politics.
