No mas! I cant take any more sob stories about government workers going without paychecks during a shutdown that just passed the 30-day mark.

They got a 30+ day vacation, could work a second job if they wanted to, get to keep that pay AND get all of their back pay. They have special privileges over the taxpayer who have to fund this largesse.

Agreed! I can’t believe the whining and carry-on about paycheques being late!! Good grief. At most, it’s an inconvenience. If someone doesn’t have emergency savings (which they SHOULD), surely they have family or friends who could help. It’s not like they’re NOT going to get their money. I’ve heard there are financial institutions willing to lend to government employees at zero interest....very accommodating.
I feel more for the MILLIONS of people who gave up hope of ever finding work under Hussein’s reign of stupidity. They didn’t have any back pay coming their way.
Totally agree! They didn’t give a rip when Obama was on his 8 year assault on our jobs, economy and freedom.
To be perfectly honest, I noticed no change at all during that alleged “shutdown” aside from the Media Pukes blabbering on about it.
“GOVERNMENT THAT GOVERNS LEAST, GOVERNS BEST”
This writer didn’t quite meet his deadline, I suppose.
Funny we never saw these sob stories about people who lost their jobs and couldn’t find work while Ovomit was pResident!
Same planet-different world
My daughter is one of those furloughed. She is a contractor so no back pay. She could get a second job but the hiring process wouldn’t be complete before she would be going back to work. I told her to look for another job.
the government is the ONLY people who can postpone paychecks because the government is the enforcer of that law. The employees are held hostage by this ability and become a political force. If General Electric did something like this, the Labor Dept would be there the next day.
When I got laid off from Liberty Glass Factory summer 1971 I got no back pay when they called me back to work! It is called THE REAL WORLD....
I know folks love to bash Gov’t workers...but.
How would you like to be a GS5 and try to live on zero for 30 days? If they have children, they are eligible for SNAP payments.....
(GS5 base base runs from 28,945.00 per year at Step 1, with a maximum possible base pay of $37,630.0)
And yes, I’m retired military, so I do have some empathy having had my paycheck help up several times by the Dems/Pubbs squabbling over DoD funding.
Smartest thing they can do now is start looking for employment elsewhere, if that is an options.
Indeed. The IRS certainly didn’t stop collecting taxes during the shutdown. The federal bureaucracy certainly didn’t stop enforcing regulations.
I was at the range the other day, and one guy was pointing out that the ATF wasn’t issuing tax stamps for NFA items during the shutdown, but was certainly cashing the tax checks.
This whole thing is a one-way street. As usual, politicians care about everyone but the taxpayer.
With the downturn in the oilfield in 2015, I laid off dozens of employees in the US. I didn’t see any special offers from banks, grocery stores or celebrities for the laid off workers.
Heck, the media acted like the minute the government workers were furloughed, a Lord of the Flies civilization would begin. PEOPLE WERE GONNA DIE!!!
On Los Angeles local news they had a woman say she was so broke she was on her 2nd loan just to pay rent and get food.
The left has no limit of BS to sell.
Hopefully they don’t blow their windfall back checks and actually create a 6 month emergency savings account. Afterall, they could b re furloughed given Nancy’s intransigence.
The government workers deserve our sympathy. They continued working and didn’t get paid. The government doesn’t have the right to compel people to work and then delay their paychecks.
Private businesses are held accountable when they don’t pay their employees.
The fact that the media looked for and promoted sob stories in order to trash Trump doesn’t change anything.
Empathy for the unpaid workers, disdain for the media.
One of my long time friends who works for USDA said just that PAID VACATION
No pity for him and his family. He doesn’t want it, coz there is NO PITY NEEDED
It also helps to stay away from college majors that encourage “bug house” thinking.
I was adamant that I was not going to pay for any “hobby degrees (being nice about “bug house thinking here!)” as the only or terminal degree. You can do biz + “hobby degree” as 2nd major or a minor (preferably!) or STEM (Biology does not count as STEM in my book!) + “hobby degree” as 2nd major or a minor (preferably!)
Best choice STEM + biz (maybe if time “hobby degree” as a minor!)
Everyone was pissed off at me, my parents, wife’s mother, etc. but I stuck to and now all are PhDs in a STEM gainfully employed & married. And no one hates me anymore, (Some still won’t admit I was right!- though the kids do!)
No sympathy from this corner. No one ever showered my kids with Christmas presents, stocked my pantry, delayed my mortgage payment and paid for daycare while I was sitting on my butt with a month’s paid vacation.
Usually I don’t like to disagree with a fellow freeper but... My wife is a former furloughed gov. employee and all they lost was two paychecks. They are paid 2 weeks behind what they’ve earned so until the middle of Jan they were getting their regular paycheck (and yet we were already hearing the sob stories). So if I know that I am getting a lump sum at the end of this and I have missed a paycheck and even though as a Gov. employee I’m well paid,I never put up any rainy day fund. I can throw my expenses on the charge card and it doesn’t come due for about 6 weeks (depends on when the charge posted and the billing cycle). So in actuality none of them should have missed paying anything until just about the time it was over. And now they get a big check. Not sympathetic.
And everyone forgets the first 14 days occurred over 2 Major holidays. 4 days Paid Christmas, New Years. 4 Unpaid unless Worked weekend days, a total of 6 Work days. Then all the weekend days during the partial shut down have to be subtracted if NOT Worked. 75% of Government was already funded. That left 25% what is considered NON-Essentials about 400,000 of the 800,000. Coast Guard needs to go back to being under the Military not HHS.
