Texas Cemetery Calling On Public To Attend USAF Vet’s Funeral Monday

United States Air Force veteran Joseph Walker will be laid to rest in Killeen, Texas on Monday, January 28, 2019, and the cemetery was concerned that no one will attend.

The Central Texas State Veteran’s Cemetery is calling for the public’s attendance at an unaccompanied Texas veteran’s funeral.

Air Force Veteran Joseph Walker will be laid to rest Monday, and no one is expected to attend. The cemetery said they do not know where his family is and they do not want him to be laid to rest alone, so they are asking the public to attend.

Fox News has more:

The Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas, made the request on Facebook Thursday. Joseph Walker served in the Air Force from 1964 to 1968, KVUE reported.

. . . . “We have the distinct honor to provide a full military burial for unaccompanied United States Air Force Veteran Joseph Walker on Monday, January 28, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery,” the post read. “If you have the opportunity, please come out and attend. We do NOT leave Veterans behind.”

A few social media users replied to the post stating they would be there, including the Wind Therapy Freedom Riders who said they will meet at a restaurant before attending the funeral.

The Killeen Daily Herald noted that “if no next of kin presents themselves at the ceremony, the on-site representative of the Veterans Land Board will accept the United States flag on Walker’s behalf, according to the Veterans Land Board, which runs the cemetery.”

Big, yes it is. I know McAllen just never heard of Killeen. Should have checked a map before asking. Anyway, just a fantasy thought. I live in Ca, spent some time in Tx and loved everything about it. I’m sure this gentleman will have a great turnout thanks to all the caring people involved.

Joe Walker, USAF, RIP.
Not the test pilot that died in a mid-air crash years ago, but a man who served our country.
Seeing the name reminded me of the terrible accident.
Both Joe Walkers, RIP.

“Killeen””

I remember the name from that horrible shooting years ago. A gal was with her parents at a restaurant when a killer madman shot up the place and HER WEAPON had been left in her car because she was obeying the law. Both her parents were killed along with others. That’s the right place, right? She testified in front of a congressional panel about guns some years later. I remember she said that she got her mother under a table and she reached for her purse when she remembered she’d taken it out of her purse to leave it in the car. She became a Chiropractor. I remember all that but her name escapes me - I even remember the restaurant, Luby’s? I think her father tried to get out and her mother got up to follow him when they were killed. Going to look it up to refresh my memory about what happened to the killer.

Killed 23 and wounded 27 - killed himself rather than surrender.

The Luby’s Cafeteria there no longer exists. It is now a Chinese buffet style restaurant. My sister and baby niece had just driven away from eating at the Luby’s there when the perp walked in and shot the place up.

You may find this interesting.

He died on November 19th, 2018, Visitation was on December 7, 2018. Burial was scheduled for Monday, December 10th, 2018. That obviously did not happen. I’ve heard of cases where bodies have been in cold storage for over a year in some cases. Headshake.

I know where Dale is. Had relatives who lived near there.

It is sad that is how his life ended.

Tonight I was told there was a good turn out. So the intended result was accomplished.

A vet should be remembered.

Don’t know what you want to share, but I’m so happy he had a great send off.
