The Tijuana cases highlight the growing number of Americans getting antibiotic-resistant infections overseas after traveling to get medical care abroad. Some who were not traveling for medical procedures but fell ill and went to foreign hospitals have also contracted such infections.

Officials say they are anxious to prevent such pathogens from gaining a foothold in the United States because they are so difficult to treat.

Had a friend who needed some kind of major dental work that would have cost over $20,000 in the U.S., but he went to Mexico and had it all done for $4,000, and that includes the costs of traveling and whatnot.

Having a decades long career in health care as well as a bit of a wandering nature I've contemplated to where I'd want to be evacuated if I were to become seriously ill/injured in a Third World country.While recently in Kenya I decided i'd want to be taken to South Africa or Europe.While in SE Asia I would have wanted to be taken to Australia,Singapore or Hong Kong.

However,I've never set foot in any country/region where Spanish was the predominant language...and never will.

And to have any kind of medical or surgical treatment in Mexico boggles my mind!
