Right, because the Marines don't have either of those. A Ranger is an Army job. No one else even has any kind of ranger in their name, unless the Navy has some kind of guy who runs their laser rangefinders. A Marine from his time period would be called a Recon Marine, as part of Force Recon. Which was killed by Marsoc in the early 2000s, but the Marines are bringing back now. He probably got the term from the

'Infantryman' is, again, more of an Army term. A Marine 'infantryman' would call themselves a rifleman or mortarman or something like that.

Oh come now. He’s an Indian. He was a tracker who detected broken twigs and the tire tracks of enemy vehicles. He was able to sniff out the enemy with his Indian powers of smell.
