Rep. Tom Marino, R-Pa., announced his resignation on Thursday with the longtime lawmaker saying he was taking a job in the private sector.
Marino, who was re-elected in November to a fifth term in the House, said that his last day in office will be Jan. 23.
"Having spent over two decades serving the public, I have chosen to take a position in the private sector where I can use both my legal and business experience to create jobs around the nation," Marino said in a statement.
He added: "I want to thank the people of the 12th Congressional District of Pennsylvania for the faith they have placed in me to represent them in Congress. It truly has been one of the greatest honors of my life.
It is unclear when Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf will hold a special election to choose Marinos successor. In April, Wolf had 10 days to set a date for a special election after Congressman Charlie Dent resigned from Pennsylvanias 15th Congressional District.
The 66-year-old Marino is a former county and federal prosecutor who co-chaired Donald Trump's successful presidential campaign in Pennsylvania.
Trump nominated Marino in 2017 to become the nation's drug czar, but Marino withdrew his name after reports alleging he played a key role in weakening federal power to stop companies from distributing opioids.

Why is he resigning after just getting reelected? That is weird.
I suspect somebody had something on him.
“Serving the public” yeah right.
Maybe he just wants to spend more time with his family.
Another pickup for the dems?
Either that or the private sector job paid really well.
It will be interesting to see what private sector company is hiring him.
Sounds like Hitlery showed him her copy of his FBI file.
Who is ELE?
Rats up by 1 now.
Still...go through a grueling fundraising and campaign and throw in the towel two month short later? I agree...somebody has the goods on him.
“I suspect somebody had something on him.”

That’s exactly what I told my beloved.
I wouldn’t bet on it as a ‘safe seat’ for the Republicans.
“”I want to thank the people of the 12th Congressional District of Pennsylvania for the faith they have placed in me to represent them in Congress. “
“...and so-long, suckers.”
It would make his life a lot simpler to take this job if they do have the goods. And in this day and age, those “goods” don’t have to be much.
Heck. I just noticed how old he is. It’s probably something dug up from 50 years ago and he just doesn’t want the headaches at this age.
He may have been told he was going to get the ‘Blasey-Ford’ treatment if he didn’t leave - and soon.
They already have a grown woman who can talk like a 13 year old school girl, smudged glasses, unsubstantiated claims from decades ago, the whole 9 yards...
False allegations are the weapon of choice for the Democrats and RINOs.
why go to all the trouble of getting re-elected and then quit in two weeks? Does the gov get to pick the replacement ? special election? Who picks up that tab?
Are you serious? He was a public-service hero. Oh, wait... heroin. My bad.
