The House and Senate this week voted overwhelmingly to provide back pay to about 800,000 federal workers who are going without paychecks because of the partial government shutdown.

But seven lawmakers — all House Republicans — opposed the measure. Those "no" votes came from Reps. Justin Amash (Mich.), Andy Biggs (Ariz.), Paul Gosar (Ariz.), Glen Grothman (Wis.), Thomas Massie (Ky.), Chip Roy (Texas) and Ted Yoho (Fla.).

President Trump on Thursday indicated he would sign the bill, leading to its passage by unanimous consent in the Senate later that day. On Friday, the House cleared the measure in a 411-7 vote.

Aren’t there 435 House members? Where are the other 17 votes?

HOW does one collect ‘unemployment’ when it is completely well known that they WILL be getting paid-—just that their pay is delayed?

IF they can collect ‘unemployment’, they will be double dipping ???

Because the deficit isn’t high enough yet.

And people wonder where socialists like AOC get their crazy "You just pay for it!" ideas.

Why not? It's worked just fine so far.

That ALONE tells you just how many ‘workers’ are not needed.

Almost every one here at FR has worked in their lives. Some have always worked in the private sector. Some have always worked in the public sector. Some have done both.

WE ALL KNOW there is deadwood in every workplace. Either a person who is totally not effective at their job or a scofflaw who manages to always LOOK BUSY, but who never produces much of anything. I call them ‘the scurriers’. Rushing to & fro-—but only dithering about, never being truly productive.

When you add the lack of incentive UNIONS push on their members, it gets worse—on a grand scale. AND, YES, I have had such an experience with Unions.

Trump knows how to run an effective operation. That is how a person is TRULY SUCCESSFUL. IF Ryan & other GOPe members discarded his desires to cut various departments, that only puts the candle on this cake for me.

I do remember reading that Trump found out there was a group working for the FEDS-—& their original job was to determine how much damage the Y2K issue would bring. Since the so very smart computer programmers had failed to recognize the end of the century was coming & they hadn’t programmed their software for such an event, there was much speculation about what would happen.

I had to get a software update for my accounting program before I could do any posting after 12-31-1999.

Trump asks his staff-—”What is this group & what are they doing?” He is told they were formed for Y2K. WHY are they still being paid?

BECAUSE NO ONE SHUT THEM DOWN-——for over 16 years, they continued to use space, draw paychecks and benefits.....

G W Bush administration MIGHT have needed them for 6 months or so-—but NOT A MINUTE LONGER...

Obama administration didn’t need them at all-—

But this staff & all those expenses were continued and continued and continued until TRUMP saw them in the paperwork & STOPPED it.

NO WONDER OBAMA only presented ONE BUDGET-—a C R (Continuing resolution) HID this travesty for 17 years.

Obama administration is the same group that allowed the AWAN family to steal House computers & to get into House members data while supposedly doing IT work.

Missing hardware & entrance into our software. Connection to Pakistan-— WHAT COULD GO WRONG???? Ask Debbie Wasserman Schultz. How come she & the AWAN family haven’t been prosecuted??? Thousands of missing hardware & no prosecutions.

My brother once forced himself to actually READ the Federal budget. ANYONE can buy a copy. He said it came in 2 fat volumes. He forced himself to read every day & he told me IF the American public actually KNEW what was in a Federal Budget, they would burn Washington DC to the ground in 24 hours.

I believe him.

Those not working should get absolutely nothing but the unemployment insurance they are entitled to”””

They are NOT entitled to UNEMPLOYMENT insurance.

This is no different than a STRIKE...

You cannot collect unemployment when you re on strike. ONLY can collect the meager strike funds your lying Union has promised you.

I was caught up in more than one strike in my younger years. By the time the strike is settled, I LOST more pay than I would recoup in the 3 year time frame of the ‘new contract’. Happened more than once.

Some of them, never, because they wouldn’t have been doing anything to begin with. Others will be swamped when they get back.

I think that’s how it works. They just deduct the amount you were paid when you go back. Also some people are setting up go fund me pages and for some they are being told to take them down.Around here some places are offering free dinners which is nice.

I’m sorry, but unless they were physically at “work” being productive, then they shouldn’t get a dime.

Back pay for the ones working? Absolutely. Back pay for the ones not working? Absolutely not, terrible policy.

This also grants back pay in perpetuity during any future shutdown.
