Jason Chaffetz: Steve King must face real consequences for his white supremacy remarks
FOX NEWS ^ | 1/14/19 | Jason Chaffetz

Once again, House Republican leaders last week found themselves having to answer for the offensive statements of Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa. This time King further confirmed his insensitivity and evidently racist approach to public policy.

The New York Times quoted King asking, "White nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization – how did that language become offensive?"

In a frank Washington Post op-ed, Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., asked, “Why are Republicans accused of racism? Because we’re silent on things like this.”

To their credit, many Republican office holders were quick to condemn the provocative remarks, with Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst tweeting, “I condemn Rep. Steve King’s comments on white supremacy; they are offensive and racist – and not representative of our state of Iowa.”

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, was also fed up, telling NBC’s Meet the Press, “What Steve King said was stupid. It was stupid, it was hurtful, it was wrong. And he needs to stop it. I think all of us ought to be united regardless of party in saying white supremacism, white nationalism is hatred, it is bigotry, it is evil, it is wrong. And I think we need that clarity. And I'm certainly going to urge everyone to provide that clarity."

Such acknowledgments are important and necessary. But words are not enough. We have had tweets, apologies and talk. Enough words. Now we need action. It is time to do what is right and remove King from his position on the House Judiciary Committee. We cannot afford to be silent.

King’s apology/statement, in its entirety:

“Today, the New York Times is suggesting that I am an advocate for white nationalism and white supremacy. I want to make one thing abundantly clear; I reject those labels and the evil ideology that they define. Further, I condemn anyone that supports this evil and bigoted ideology which saw in its ultimate expression the systematic murder of 6 million innocent Jewish lives.

It’s true that like the Founding Fathers I am an advocate for Western Civilization’s values, and that I profoundly believe that America is the greatest tangible expression of these ideals the World has ever seen. Under any fair political definition, I am simply a Nationalist. America’s values are expressed in our founding documents, they are attainable by everyone and we take pride that people of all races, religions, and creeds from around the globe aspire to achieve them. I am dedicated to keeping America this way.

This conviction does not make me a white nationalist or a white supremacist. Once again, I reject those labels and the ideology that they define. As I told the New York Times, ‘it’s not about race; it’s never been about race.’ One of my most strongly held beliefs is that we are all created in God’s image and that human life is sacred in all its forms.”

So, the catamites condemn a man for his words, yet refuse to accept his words in clarification/apology.

Virtue signalling rodentia rectums all.

I’m frankly disappointed in Tim Scott. While keenly aware of the terrific pressure black conservatives are under, this should be our time to shine, not shrink!

I honestly think he misspoke and even if he didn’t I hold it as no worse than the numerous racist statements said, without consequences, by members of the congressional black caucus.

I agree with your statement. But why is it a crime against humanity to be a white supremicist? Which he clearly is not. So someone should be imprisoned or lose their job because they think people of their melanin content are better than people with a different melanin content? So the F what? I would be more inclined to agree if such a standard applied to all melanin contents. But not only is it applied to only one melanin content, but people of a lower melanin content are active shamed and taught to despise their heritage. These people will not be happy until continents once again burn

Those (on both sides) condemning Rep. King as “racist” and “white supremacist” must have missed the part where he said that he welcomes people of all races who culturally assimilate. The fact that many fail to do so isn’t King’s fault.

But of course minorities can blast whitey all week to Wednesday and never be called out as the extreme racists they are. Their constant racist rants are completely ignored.

Yep, I have learned here that MLK was a gun totin’ conservative Republican, and that the Constitution works no matter what the population looks like. I don’t think those days are quite over, but I’m ever hopeful.

Rep. King is chastised for remarks that seemingly support the concept of white supremacy. Whether he was supporting that concept or asking for a discussion on the use of this politically incorrect term is not so clear. In any event, the virtue signalers in both the Republican and Democratic parties felt the need for a public rebuke. If his speech was offensive, was it more, or less, offensive than Rep. Talib calling the President a motherf...er, and standing by that comment when confronted about her language choice? Apparently, referring to the President by such an expletive is okay, but daring to use the words white supremacy is the hallmark of a racist. According to Pelosi, Talib simply was exercising her First Amendment right to speak out. Other than a weak statement by Senator Manchin none of the Democrats and very few Republicans bothered to call her out. Why am I not surprised?

Steve King has the right of free speech, right or wrong, to say whatever he thinks! I will not criticize him as long as the jokes like O-Cortez and that broad who called the president a Motherf-—er remain in Congress! IT IS PAST TIME To STAND BEHIND THE CONSTITUTION NO MATTER WHO IS OFFENDED. I am OFFENDED every day that I have to listen to Pelosi and Schumer, among a long list of others.

Just goes to show how the very wellspring of Western Civilization has been corroded.

It is safe for a democrat fool to call the president of the United States a m——f—— without one protest from Republicans.

But Republicans getting anywhere close to forbidden thoughts is immediately threatened with sanctions.

And what became of Tim Scott’s immediate preference to praying for and forgiveness of his democrat instigators, according to Trey Gowdy?

Democrats always need a 'racist Republican' to target as a 'racist Republican' to keep their narrative of a 'racist Republican' alive.

Any 'racist Republican' will do.

Dear Jason Chaffetz,
If you have a problem with White People? Take it up with God!

I’m white and I love being white. There’s not a privilege or birthright advantage to anyone in this world for any skin color.

There are no guarantees about anything in this world, - other than death.

I despise the way Republicans abandon one of their own at the slightest hint of controversy. Really, what cowards.

Shoot - the first thread I saw on this topic was full of Freepers falling all over themselves to condemn this guy. The brainwashing goes deep.

I have no issues with “white nationalism” (why can hispanic, asian, etc countries be proud of their nationalism but not whites?), but white supremacy? Ugh.
