The White House demanded that the military draft plans for strikes on Iran after attacks in Iraq last year, sparking concern at the Pentagon and State Department, The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday, January 13.
The report said the move came after a mortar attack launched by an Iran-linked group on the Baghdad diplomatic quarters home to the US embassy in September. No one was hurt by the shells, which landed in an open lot.

We should be concentrating on Iranian forces in Syria and Iraq. Put them back in their hole.
Well this report is good but the fact that we are hearing about it is not good.
The Pentagon should always be drafting plans. That’s what they’re there for.
Would the author be surprised to learn that the Pentagon has developed plans to invade Canada?

I would imagine that somewhere, someone has ‘official’ plans on invading the US.
One must be prepared for ANY situation and sometimes, the more outlandish it sounds, the closer to reality it is.
Like trying to sort out the ‘quotes’ from Politicians...one should check for sarcasm or spoof before completely digesting the majority of crap that spews from their lying pie holes..
Sadly, the worse they seem, the truer they are...
Great plan.....Deep State State Deptartment leaks to their friends in Iran Iran gets a clue.
This report is absolute BS. Standard procedure (for anyone that has been in the military know it well), is to plan for all contingencies. What is the purpose of this story? To paint Trump as some vengeful madman with his finger on the trigger? BS. It is a propaganda piece, nothing more. I assure you that we have plans to attack Russia in a hundred different ways. Is that newsworthy? So what. It is a hit piece, and nothing more. It is designed to add to the hysteria and to paint Trump in their own caricature. They selling a soft coup. Don’t trust anything that you see in the media and always ask what the purpose of the article is. What are the actual facts? I loved how they tried to legitimize it by adding and un-named source. “It definitely rattled people,” a former senior US administration official told the newspaper. “People were shocked. It was mind-boggling how cavalier they were about hitting Iran.” Who the hell was that? Susan Rice?
The US did not, and does not have plans to hit Iran?
That DOES surprise me. They should have plans to attack Vermont, for Gods sake.
I recall that “invade Canada” story from awhile ago. The trillions of dollars we spend on the military better have a plan on what to do if the enemy takes over Canada. And as others have posted - I’m sure they have a plan if they land on Miami beach.
I’m guessing that a direct landing on one of our own shores probably isn’t a big threat - so maybe the planning isn’t so site-specific.
Thank you!
Smells like smoke to me.
While acknowledging that Agence-Press is probably leftist, including foreign press in main stream media is too broad a brush.
“Well this report is good but the fact that we are hearing about it is not good.”
According to Jordan Peterson, during a crisis with the Soviet Union Nixon told his negotiators, “You tell them that I’m a total nut case and I want to go to DEFCON III.” The negotiators were able to resolve the crisis. You can bet that much of what you see in the news about Trump’s willingness to knock heads is planted there because he wants it there. It is better to bluster and win by intimidation than to remain stoic and have to win by killing a bunch of people.
Incidentally, if previous presidents wanted a paper to run a story they could have had somebody call and ask. Now, I’m sure this administration will have to find somebody to act like they’re selling them out to get a story published. The media has changed in the last forth years.
Alot deeper then I originally thought...We're close to a Banana Republic and don't even realize it...its a coup alright..
“It definitely rattled people,” ... BS.
US has strike plans and does war scenarios on just about every area that is considered a problem. This is a BS story to make the Administration look bad.
What would be scary is if they asked for plans and the Pentagon had none. Then heads should roll for total incompetence.

Above is a GREAT, GREAT!!! talk by Nixon to the Oxford Student Union. The entire thing is wonderful (done after he left office). He gives a ten minute speech, then answers questions for over an hour freehand.
At the 47 minute mark he talks about how important it is that the leaders know each other. At 49 minutes he talks about how Brezhnev told him that he was sending in two divisions to Israel, and that Nixon would need to do the same. Nixon replied no - he would not.
Later - Nixon raised the alert level. Brezhnev backed down. “Now - if Brezhnev didn’t know me - we would talk on the phone often. But if he didn’t know me - he might have thought that I was bluffing. He made the right decision to back down.”
The entire event is really good. Quite a bit of humor from Nixon. “Brezhnev didn’t want a war. He wants the world - but he doesn’t want a war.” That got a good laugh.
Most of the time during the event there are protestors shouting. The kids asking questions would get rattled - but Nixon never did.
Some kid, while asking a question, stopped as the yelling got much louder. Nixon told him “It’s okay, go on. The acoustics here are really bad. If you all throw a fundraiser to fix it, I’ll chip in 20 bucks.”
At the beginning of the event he thanks the organizers for such a warm welcome. “And the folks outside (loud chanting in the background) - they are making me feel right at home!”
I need to look when Bill Clinton was there. I think it was after the speech. But Nixon said, while praising Oxford University, something like “You know, I don’t think it will be too long before an American President comes along that has been to Oxford.”
Another day, more anonymous “reports” from “a former senior US administration.”
Which means some fourteen year old leftist stooge has been allowed at the keyboard again.
