1. David Steven Bell Is Seen in the Video Shoving the Girl Away From Him Before Punching Her in the Face, Knocking Her Out & Down to the Ground
David Steven Bell can be seen in the video, initially posted to Instagram by an unidentified person, in an argument with a group of young girls outside of the Asheville Mall. You can watch the video above. The incident occurred on Saturday, January 12. Bell is white and most of the girls in the video are black. It is not clear what occurred before the video started.
In the video, Bell can be heard yelling to the girls to “break it up.” As other girls yell at him, one can be heard asking, “who is he?” Bell walks menacingly at the girls and they appear to back off. One girl then pushes Bell in the back, barely shifting his balance.
As the girl walks toward Bell, he shoves her backward, sending her into a metal pole and nearly to the ground. The girl gets back up and Bell punches with a closed fist, knocking the girl out and down to the ground. The other girls then run away screaming as the video ends.
Online jail records show that Bell is 6 foot 5 inches tall and weighs 250 pounds.
According to the Asheville-Citizen Times, the incident occurred about 7 p.m. at the Asheville Mall. Police spokeswoman Christina Hallingse told the newspaper that an off-duty officer who was already at the mall arrested Bell after the incident. The girl declined medical treatment and was not taken to the hospital, Hallingse told the Citizen-Times.

Well, now he’s been arrested and charged. So, now he’ll be the convict.
Maybe, if he’d just pushed her away again, and held off on punching, then the girl would’ve been the one in trouble right now.

It turns out, that woman and child weren't with him.
What happened before the video started may be very relevant....
We don’t know what happened before this video starts. But, as it starts, you can see him push someone out of the way. Then the girl pushes him from behind. Next she is standing there arguing with him. He shoves her. The other girls are backing up. The girl jumps up and comes at him as if ready to fight. He punches her and knocks her out. She’s under 12 years old.
We’re all making assumptions here. I assumed the woman and child were with him. It turns out, they weren’t.
Many here are assuming the girls attacked him first. But other stories say he was pushing through the girls and that’s why they were arguing with him.
We don’t really know how it all started, but we’re sure to hear more.
Why are you and others drawing the conclusion HE escalated the situations by yelling 'knock it off'?
You don't know what happened before that. You don't know what 'knock it off refers to'. You don't know what 'knock it off' was in response to. You're assuming he went in to break up a fight but you don't know that. That is your assumption.
'Knock it off' could mean he and his family were walking to their car and they were being verbally or physically harassed.
When you're surrounded, you don't just turn your back on a threat and walk away.
I was waiting to see if this would be on the morning news and it wasn't. 'Racist white man cold-cocks innocent young black girl' isn't the national screaming headline.
I want to known more details.
Excessive force has to be determined by the level of threat. A pack of out of control little girls is not a minor threat.
Most likely within the next 10 years she'll breed 5 - 7 more just like her and they'll be the ones doing time.

The left intentionally starts recording AFTER they provoke something so that the video starts with the victim “reacting”. Then the victim looks like the bad guy.
They push someone, hit them, call names or otherwise instigate it, then turn on phones while you’re screaming at the poor innocent child or pushing the oppressed victim group member. Your story of what started it is dismissed because the violent mob that started it all side with their person.
Until someone hits you in the back of the head with a pipe in polar bear hunting, and the cops don’t care because the victim is white. And it is just a “game”.
8-10 people surrounding a man, his wife and little girls. The mob is yelling at them, moving in and out towards them in a threatening way, blocking their escape root. One of the girls gets in his face and he pushes her. She run toward him with clenched fist. He hits first. I suppose considering the size difference he could have let her swing first, but honestly with the stories you read today about flash mob assaults I’m not sure I would have reacted too much differently. He had two very young girls with him who could have been in danger. Tough call, but if the gang doesn’t initiate the contact Mr. Bell and his family probably just walk to their car and go home.
From what I understand he was stopping an altercation between two groups. That was a mistake. Remaining at the location after the focus turned to him was another mistake. Punching her with that amount of force was a really bad mistake. Bottom line: if you see an altercation taking place between kids and you don’t see weapons, keep on walking. At most, observe and record from a distance.
You must have watched an edited video. I’m not saying I agree with what he did, but he was surrounded by a screaming mob, had two little girls with him, no easy visible means of escape and the girl was charging at him with clenched fist. Doesn’t look so cut and dried to me.

If he’d restrained her, what do you suppose the rest of the “pack” would have been doing to him while he did so, and how could he have responded to them while he was restraining her?
